From Iceland to Poland, from Poland to Italy, from Italy to the world

Everything started in 2015 when I left to Iceland. For 6 months I was working as a volunteer for the organization SEEDS Iceland being responsible for international workcamps.

Like everyone who comes to Iceland I wanted my own traditional sweater but neather any pattern met my expectations nor my wallet of a volunteer was able to collect so much money to buy one. In the same time the group of my friends started being interested in knitting so together we were trying and passing all the skills from one to another. Also the Icelandic farmers who hosted us on workcamps were more than helpful.
After coming back to Poland I didn’t stop knitting: for my family, friends, friends of friends and finally people I didn’t know at all. Since the beggining of Jigsknits I've made more than 100 sweaters!

In 2019 I moved to nordern Italy and I continue on my mission to bring a bit of Icelandic warmth to the world!

I’m Katarzyna but most of my friends name me Jigsa. I am a Polish knitter based in Italy who makes handmade Icelandic wool sweaters (sounds crazy, isn't it?). I learnt how to knit in Iceland and I've already made more than 100 sweaters.

Frequently asked questions
Why your sweaters are so expensive?

All the products are made of 100% Icelandic wool without any additional ingredients. The wool is made in Iceland and the shipping costs together with Icelandic taxes rise the price. Icelandic wool might be even 4 times more expensive than the cotton versions. Moreover all the products are handmade and it takes many hours to make one sweater.

What kind of wool is that? Is it itchy?

Icelandc wool Ístex is made of Icelandic sheep wool. The wool is partly waterproof (the firsts drops stay on the surface of the fabric), doesn’t absorb smells. The fibers isn’t smooth but devided into smaller hairs which made then more fluffy. The natural characteristics of this wool effects with the sensation which for many people is itchy. The sweater take a special bath in a liquid to wash wool before being shipped which make them more sensible. We advice to wear T-shirts under it.

How should I take care of my jumper?

Sweaters made of Icelandic wool shouldn’t be washed too often. They don’t absorb smells so we should wash them only when they get very dirty. Wash them with your hands in lukewarm water with a liquid to wash wool or delicate soap. Don’t twist your sweater in different directions but take water out by pushing the sweater for example by the corners of a bathtub. Dry it on a flat surface changind the sides every few hours. Keep the sweater on a shelf, not on a hanger.
