JimAndGina's Shop Announcement

While walking my dog, I noticed a walnut half shell left by the squirrels. The nutmeat was eaten leaving a heart in the middle of the shell, and "Love in a Nutshell" was born. It has since developed into a joint venture between the squirrels and us. They gather and split the walnuts and we finish them--we couldn't do it without them.
After retiring and selling our studio we quit making pottery. Guess we just can't stop creating. Now we live in a beautiful 140 year old farmhouse and create our jewelry in our Barn Studio.
A thin slice from the center of the shell is cleaned in a strong bleach solution and then the heart is filled with red resin. Applying black resin to the backside of the pendant often creates unique designs around the red heart on the front side. The entire shell pendant is then given several coats of poly-acrylic finish to complete the pendant.

To complete the necklace we add gold plated brass chain with a barrel clasp (twist/screw to close).

Our banner features the wildlife ponds we viewed from our home and studio before retiring from our life as potters. Now we plan to watch our garden grow and the bunnies that ramble around our restored farmhouse home instead of the wildlife of Northern Minnesota..

We will sell our remaining pottery on Etsy. We also plan to sell Vintage items.

All of our pottery is “wheel thrown” high fire stoneware; most of our glazes, slips, and engobes were developed by Gina, although we have recently began using some commercial glazes and underglazes. The decoration is all done by hand when the pot is in various stages of drying, from wet to bone dry; all the painting and decorating is done under the glaze and will never fade or chip off. Our pottery is fired close to 2300 degrees Fahrenheit, making it very durable. All the pottery from Hummingbird Studio is lead free, dishwasher and microwave safe and ovenproof.
