This My Mermaid print!! She is a client fave!! My print is done in beautiful paper and shows the colors of the original painting beautifully!! Perfectly Priced!!
Finished piece!! So happy with how it turned out!! Wet on wet, working quickly but with a clear vision!!
The beginning of Sublime. I love each stage of this painting. It's a lot of hurry and wait and babysit. But that's the cool part!!

About

Expressions of Beauty by Jodilynpaintings. Abstract Landscape and Figurative Abstract Originals. Some also available in print.

Before starting any painting I research whatever landscape or figure I plan on depicting. I usually spend a few days just thinking about color and what I want to achieve in my painting. I will then sketch an outline and write out colors and shading ideas. I need to have it set in my mind before I begin since I really enjoy painting wet on wet. Because of this I make quick decisions but only sometimes head a different direction. My media of preference is heavy body acrylic and charcoal. Different shades of charcoal are a definite pleasure for me to apply and helps to change the whole appearance of the painting. I find my inspiration through the curves and lines of strategically placed brushstrokes will change the whole concept of the painting and I love the feeling of making a strong statement so simply. I tend to use charcoal at the end t0 finish off space and fill in details of my images. This adds depth and soft feel.
When I am first "finished" with a painting. I will take a day or two to just stand it up and look at the technique or see if something feels as if it is unfinished. Seeing it in black and white will aid my decision to extend the finished product or have a fulfilling sense of "doneness". Abstract is where I feel most comfortable and open to show my emotion or depict a something striking or mild. The use of gel and pumice is not always necessary but when I feel it will add another dimension or flow I allow the painting to go in that direction.
I mostly paint on large stretched canvas. This is where I feel the most freedom in my art. I like using the whole right side of my body to get the paint moving and long complete brushstrokes. I do a lot of drybrushing where I need to really kind of "scribble" and "rough up" my work to get the effect I need. I'm constantly surprised I don't break right through the canvas. And even though the large canvas is more fun I do have clients wanting something small for a specific room or area and since I find it challenging to scale my painting down I do enjoy challenges. On the smaller canvases I sketch down to the smallest detail which leads to no mistake.
With the music blaring, probably to the point I'm disturbing neighbors, is when the painting pours out and quickly becomes something worthwhile. I enjoy working with non-profit organizations, I find it to be very fulfilling. I like the idea behind someone buying a piece of art and also helping a charity in need. I am constantly inspired by indie authors and indie music. I even went to an indie author book signing and painted a picture for three differnent authors.
