Joe Winograd is a Multimedia Artist Working in Providence, RI
Joe Winograd is a multimedia artist investigating "handmade" digital art. Over the last few years he has created holographic prints, sculptural installations and collaged jewelry out of GIF animations from his tumblr blog, removing his psychedelic creations from the browser window and placing them into our hands.
"Since my first GIF animations in 2013 I have been developing ways to break away from the digital medium and giving my studio practice more physicality and human interaction. By making hand-drawn gestures with my GIFs I present digital animations that resemble Matisse’s paper collages or Sister Corita’s screenprints. By creating lenticular GIF prints with Gifpop in New York and GIF-Arté in Paris, my cyberdelic animations now exist as physical art objects that create digital motion away from the computer screen. My new series of lenticular GIF Sculptures give my digital art even more physical presence as three-dimensional art objects that float and spin to trigger their embedded digital animations. The sculptures’ prismatic structures – inspired by Buckminster Fuller’s geodesic architecture – make the holographic orbs look like levitating Fabergé Eggs from a sci-fi movie."
Joe Winograd has exhibited internationally, including Marfa Contemporary in Texas, the Contemporary Art Museum of St. Louis, EyeBeam Art + Technology Center in New York, and was featured in the first ever GIF Print exhibitions in London and Paris this year. He has been featured by Vice Magazine's Creators Project, Konbini Magazine, Tumblr Staff Picks and more!
