Welcome to the John Harris Wilmer Gallery, offering original art & collectibles from the personal collection of the late artist, John Harris Wilmer (1947-2019). After living with cancer for over 6 years, John passed away in February 2019. John’s daughter, Tiina, manages his collection & is working to ensure others have the opportunity to view, purchase & enjoy a piece of his rich legacy.


John was born in St. Paul, Minnesota and grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. He studied Art & Art History at the University of California, Riverside & the School of Visual Arts in New York City. He earned his B.A. from Western Washington University and his MFA in Photography & Print making from the University of Utah. In addition to his prolific painting & photography career, John taught art at junior colleges in the Pacific Northwest, Northern California, & at the University of Utah.


Returning to the SF Bay Area in the late 1980s, John made San Francisco his home. Since 2001, John held court at the John Wilmer Studio on Caledonia Street in Sausalito. There he was an established & well-known artist & community member. Many of John’s photographs & paintings were inspired by the natural & stunning beauty of Golden Gate Park, Marin County, & other areas of Northern California.


John had a passion & love of art & the creative process- as well as for antiques & collectibles. Other than time with his children & friends, John was happiest when creating art, sharing his passion, joy & knowledge of art & antiques with others. Hope you enjoy the collection!
