Art and Design

I started collaging around 2011 as an artistic thing to do while I lacked the space and tools to do the art I really wanted to do: jewelry production and sculpture. In the beginning, a friend and I would just mess around with old magazines I'd find at work or at Goodwill and try to make each other laugh. It stayed casual for a year or so until I started listening to vaporwave and synthwave. These music scenes began to inspire me and encouraged me to bring some more substantive themes to my collages. Never really intending to become a 2D artist, I started seeing collage as a legitimately interesting art medium that could do more than get a laugh for a few minutes.

Seeking to challenge myself and get more involved in these music scenes, I began to approach synth/vaporwave artists and labels I liked and offer to make album cover art if they were interested. I was fortunate enough to get some interest from the label runners at Midwest Collective and started handling most of their cover art/graphic design needs. These covers can be found over at their bandcamp page []. This got me into the scene, and consequently I was lucky enough to end up working with a lot of musicians, artists and labels in these scenes that I had a lot of respect for: a partial list of whom can be found at my facebook page. Much love always to MWC.

Still developing my style with collage, in 2014 I was lucky enough to find an old jeweler who was liquidating his shop and looking to sell off his assets. I got his bench and many tools and was then almost able to begin working with jewelry. I was still living in a small apartment with my girlfriend and lacked adequate space. As a result, I kept my main artistic medium collage and kept exploring different styles and design.

In 2015, we moved to a larger apartment in Asheville, NC where I was now able to begin messing with jewelry design in earnest. Having increased my technical skills and familiarity with the business, I am now beginning to shift my artistic pursuits more towards fine jewelry fabrication.
