Paintings, Drawings, Etchings, Monotypes
In much of my work an initial concept serves as a vehicle for spontaneous ideas that challenge formality and technique along the way. The materials either control or support what happens to the idea during the work in progress.
I pull inspiration from a range of sources such as fairy tales, dreams, living creatures and natural landscapes. Female humans and other animals become expressive vehicles for an emotion or state of being. The odd spaces in dreams and my love of surrealism inspire strangeness in composition and imagery. I delight in the idea that ambiguities create an opportunity for personal interpretation; I want viewers to find their own stories and recollections in my work.
My work for sale on Etsy includes a range of media. While my current series is subjective in nature I may also post traditional work in watercolor or pastel from time to time.
Education and Teaching: I received a B.A. in Studio Art, Painting from Binghamton University and Master’s Degrees in Art from the University of Iowa. I have been teaching Art at the Community College of Vermont since 1997 and have taught workshops and classes locally at Burlington City Arts and Shelburne Craft School.
