About

A Long Road

Nena Malhotra is a self-described fashion outsider. With a super petite hourglass figure, Nena discovered as a teenager that clothing was not made to complement girls who looked like her. In college, she turned to vintage because it just fit better. As she started to wear clothes that fit and complemented her shape, Nena got increasingly more attention for her distinctively fun, bold, ultra-femme style. Other girls wanted to know where she got what she was wearing and how she ever thought to put that awesome outfit together. She helped dress friends for dates, school dances, the Oscars, Christmas parties, weddings—you name it.

Shortly after graduating from college in 2009, in a crappy economy and with nothing more than a degree in English and art history, Nena opened her first vintage store on Etsy. She thought of it as just a temporary gig while she figured out something bigger to do. Nena thought that “something bigger” might be law school, so she tried it out. But after a couple years of powering through her JD program, Nena admitted to herself that law was just the wrong fit—just like those low-rise jeans from high school. She missed the creativity of her vintage shop.

Nena permanently closed her law textbooks to reinstate her vintage shop with the goal of providing cool, unusual clothing and accessories to cool, unusual girls across the globe. Nena asks "We all look, think, and feel differently, so why should we all dress the same?"

Shipping
Your goodies will usually ship within one business day of your payment clearing, but it can take up to two days to go out if we're super busy.

We ship to the address on your Paypal account unless you ask us to ship to a different address. We always combine shipping costs to save you money.

DOMESTIC SHIPPING: Domestic (U.S.) purchases are always sent via USPS Priority 2-3 day shipping because we know how eager you are to get your things.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING: International packages are sent via First Class Mail (the least expensive option) and usually take about 7-14 days. Sometimes international shipments can take longer. This is unfortunately out of our control because packages are sometimes held for long periods in the recipient's country for customs inspection. International customers are responsible for any and all duties, customs charges, taxes, and tarrifs that may be incurred. We are legally required to indicate on customs forms that your purchase is "merchandise," not a "gift."

EXPEDITED SHIPPING: If you need your loot to arrive sooner, please contact us with your postal code or zip code and we'll let you know how much it'll cost to expedite your package.

OTHER: To conserve paper, Nena Vintage does not include the purchase invoice in the your package. However, you can find it on Etsy under Your Account/Purchases.
Refunds and Exchanges
At Nena Vintage, we do our best to accurately describe our goods. We accept returns for exchange or store credit, but we cannot refund payment unless we've made a mistake in describing an item.* Exception: We will gladly refund your money before an item has been shipped!

*Since sizing varies by brand, a suggested size (example: "Fits like a modern size 4") is not considered a mistake. A mistake would be if we inaccurately measured a garment in inches (example: "Bust: 34"). It's important for you to look at the actual measurements we provide and not rely solely on our sizing suggestion.
Additional policies and FAQs
Questions?: If you have questions about any of our items or about your purchase, send us a message and we'll get back to you within 24 hours.

How we describe an item's condition:
PRISTINE: Perfect condition.
EXCELLENT: No flaws, or very minor flaws that do not compromise a garment's wearability.
VERY GOOD: Minor notable flaws; wearable after light repair.
GOOD: One or two notable flaws; wearable after more significant repair.
FAIR: Numerous notable flaws; possibly repairable.
POOR: Beyond probable repair. These are usually sold as design inspiration pieces.

Sizing: We measure everything in inches. Sizing recommendations are based on contemporary U.S. designer sizes. Please refer to the measurements we provide for a more accurate description of a garment's dimensions. We recommend that you compare our measurements to your own measurements, and to those of a similar garment that fits you well.

How to measure yourself using a measuring tape:
BUST: Fullest part of your chest wearing a well-fitting bra.
WAIST: The narrowest part of your torso, a couple inches above your navel.
HIPS: The fullest part of your booty, about level with your pelvic bone.
INSEAM: From the highest point of the inside of your thigh to the bottom of your ankle bone, with your leg fully extended.
SLEEVE LENGTH: From the shoulder seam of a fitted tee-shirt to just below your wrist bone, with your arm fully extended.
