Our Joppa Story really begins the year I had my first child. In 2016, I gave birth to my son. I found myself moving as well as stepping down from an elementary teaching position that I had known and loved for several years. Though I knew I’d miss teaching very much, I was delighted to welcome home our new baby and now be the vessel God used to make his life rich and full as I once did to other children when I taught. I was overjoyed! I began by quoting Bible passages to him. As the years passed, I knew he was learning the verses I so often recited to him throughout our times together. Then I had an idea! I searched and searched for Bible toys that would make Bible time a bit more hands on and visual for my little guy. I found a few here and there, but nothing really special that I felt met my needs and vision. That’s when Joppa Toys was born. I couldn’t find what I wanted for our Bible time together. So decided I’d make them myself! My husband and I both slowly learned woodworking skills and painting techniques to bring Bible characters to life as we read them in scripture. And not only that! But I found that making resources was a great compliment to the toys. I really enjoy making Bible lessons. Needless to say, my son and I had great times together. We made good memories. We continue to make memories and love to celebrate scripture around the year on our little old side table as we carefully set up all the characters in their proper places. Then, we play! We recall specific Bible accounts and move the toys around. It’s a welcoming place. Nothing too fragile for little hands to enjoy for a week or two and then…we put those away and enjoy another story. And now that our family has grown, we can now use the toys with our little girl. My son still enjoys playing with our creations…and I suspect he’ll take those toys and memories with him some day. I pray that these visuals will do the same in your home. Just simple toys that will help little ones to gain a love of Scripture and to keep their eyes on Jesus.
