The colors in this yarn are so lovely! I'm looking forward to a pair of socks with it. Shipping, as always, was super quick.

Love the 50/50 Merino/silk. I was surprised it was still available. It was difficult to choose just one.

About

There really are no bad colors!

Why JulieSpins? I began my fiber life as a spinner. I was a bit obsessed. I worked all day long at a demanding job (still do), and at night I would spin. I spun to relax and to do something useful at the same time. At 4 hours a night, 5 nights a week, I became a very good spinner, with way too much handspun yarn. It was good preparation for dyeing though, because I learned a lot about what makes well-dyed fiber a pleasure to spin.

In 2007 I dyed my first fiber. As a scientist by training, the chemicals and "labwork" is natural for me, but it has been the beauty of unexpected colors and combinations that has kept me going. I've learned that there are truly no bad colors. I love to experiment with different fiber blends, new yarns, and new techniques. I dye almost every day. Often I plan my dyeing for the evening on my commute home from work, and I lose track of time and work on my business late into the night. I love having a Post Office that is open for drop-offs 24 hours a day - I am the one who is there after midnight. My business seems to use a different part of my brain that has its own energy.

You may have noticed that Etsy no longer means "handmade." Etsy is filled with mass-produced, manufactured items. Quite sad, really. BUT, not in my shop. Every item I sell is dyed by me. I am the only artisan here. I am also the only dyer, untangler, photographer, accountant, shipper, advertising agent, chemist, and whatever else my business needs. I applaud the success of my fellow dyers who have made the leap from one-woman-handmade-brands to companies that are carried by yarn stores coast-to-coast, but that is not my path for now. I deliberately limit my business to keep it healthy and in balance with the rest of my life.

My business has one guiding principle, which is to treat my customers as I would wish to be treated, by selling the best products I can find, dyed to the best of my ability, at a fair price. Thanks for listening.

Frequently asked questions

Wholesale availability

I do sell my yarn at wholesale to several yarn stores but at the moment I do not have the capacity to add any more wholesale accounts. The time I have available for wholesale is extremely limited since this is a one-woman business. Thanks for understanding.

Can you wind my yarn into a ball or cake?

No, I am sorry, that is not a service that I can provide.
