Announcement   Did you know that mosaic art is one of the oldest arts there is? Back in earlier times, it was considered a sign of wealth and status, I suppose because it takes so long to make. Properly made mosaic art work should last a long time and makes an excellent family heirloom to be passed down through the generations.

I've been re-purposing old china, porcelain, lamps, vases, anything that breaks for over 18 years. I also incorporate trinkets and tesserae I find along life's pathways from beaches to thrift stores. A lot of people find and save things for me if they break, or even commission me to work with items and antiques they already have, like pieces of their grand mother's china.

True mosaic is time consuming and hand laid, piece by piece. You can either follow a pre-planned pattern or do as I usually do and just let your imagination go as you progress. It can be very therapeutic. The adhered pieces are then grouted, cleaned, polished and sealed.

When starting out, I just covered things with mosaic. Table tops, frames, mirrors, bowling balls....you can mosaic just about any solid item that doesn't move. I've evolved into sculpting my own forms and then mosaicking them. That way, I own the entire thing.

I live in Florida with my little dog Elliott and rescued feral cat Maggie. I have 3 wonderful grand children. Life is good and as Oscar Wilde says "too short to be taken seriously".

Thank you so much for visiting my shop. I hope you find something that makes you smile or touches your heart in some way.

Please feel free to submit an offer on something if you feel the price is wrong for you & you really love it. Also, I love getting feed back.

This is by far the most prized possession in my home! For months I was looking for the perfect table top for my garden and I could not love my beautiful wildflower table top more! Thank you so much for creating this colorful and detailed piece for me!

Robbi created the most beautiful image of a precious pet. She is a dream to work with, and is an amazing artist. The mosaic was finished in a very short time and shipped quickly. I recommend her most highly!!!

About

Here's the story

My shop is right here in my home in Lakeland, Florida. I work in an enclosed porch, usually late into the night because it's cooler then, just listening to music and doing my thing. The neighbors have kindly tolerated the sounds of breaking glass.
I sometimes do painting and decoupage, but I always go back to mosaic. People save broken dishes and china for me, I shop yard sales and thrift stores and sometimes buy brand new fine china & porcelain that I fall in love with, and yes, I do, I break it. Some think that this is a little wacky, but most artist are.
I'm a self taught mosaic artist who loves bright colors and I try to be unique and creative. My mosaic art works incorporate a lot of 3D glass flowers and other trinkets and tesserae that I collect along life's highways
I pre make art forms and also do a lot of custom work. I've created tons of table tops and mirrors, some back splashes, and concrete benches & tables near people's docks here in Florida.
When I first started mosaicking in 1998, I just covered existing objects with mosaic and have since evolved into "sculpting" and then mosaicking some of my art forms, making the total experience my own.
I've done many art shows and have some of my items in galleries in the Tampa Bay area. I love showing my works on Etsy because it's all art. My business cards read "Robbi's Cracked Up Mosaics" but that name wasn't available on Etsy, so here, I'm "Just About You".
I hope I can be of some service to you. I would be more than honored to have something I created adopted by you, whether it be custom made or from my shop.
True mosaic art is created piece by piece and is very time consuming. It's hard to price...how can you put a price on something you love to do? But I too, have to eat and buy supplies to keep me going. If you love something I've made and the price just doesn't seem right to you, contact me with an offer and we'll try to work it out.
An investment in mosaic artwork is something that you can keep for years to come and pass down through the generations.
Thanks so much for sharing my story & visiting my shop.

  • Elliott

    Designer, Companion & Watch Dog

Elliott was "the runt of the litter" when I brought him home almost 6 yrs ago, weighing in at just 2 lbs. He was born deaf & blind in one eye. He's now a "big dog" weighing in at 6.5lbs. Everyone loves him & he's sooo spoiled.

  • Maggie

    Assistant

Maggie was a feral cat, starving and skinny when we started feeding her. She's now a big part of our family. She's sweet and loves to play and when we let her outside, she shows us her "wild" side by bringing snakes home as presents.
