Proudly hand woven in North Carolina

After 30 years of exhibiting in high end craft show, I am "off the road" , selling my baskets through my studio and my Etsy Shop. I recently moved from the mountains of North Carolina back to New Bern where my basketmaking career began 38 years ago.

I create all of my own designs. My process is time consuming from carving, dyeing, to hand shaping and weaving the basket. No molds are ever used. I usually work on just one basket at the time in excitement of seeing the finished product. When you purchase my baskets, you are getting an original Billie Ruth Sudduth basket. My prices reflect my experience, workmanship, and creativity,

I have made over 10,800 baskets and have kept a log of everyone who has ever purchased my work. I have baskets in many museums including the Smithsonian, the Museum of Art and Design, the Montgomery Museum of Art, the Asheville Museum of Art, the Mint Museum, Columbia Museum of Art., and the Mingei Museum among others. My highest honor came in 1997 when I was named a North Carolina Living Treasure, the states highest honor in the field of crafts.

PBS, HGTV, and CBS Sunday Morning have all featured my work. Many publications, book, magazines, and newspapers have also shown my baskets.

My resume and other information is available at www.brsbasket.com

My Carolina Snowflake, a design I published in 1986 and copyrighted in 2002, have decorated three White House Christmas trees and are often copied. by others without permission. A Carolina Snowflake by any other name is still a Carolina Snowflake.

Basketry is actually Billie Ruth Sudduth's second career. She spent almost twenty years as a school psychologist. Fibonacci and the Nature Sequence are the inspirations for her work as her baskets are mathematically based, drawing on both careers.
