This was a gift for my daughter, a Weimar owner. She loved it. She also loved the story behind the print. Love your pics! If you ever do a red long-haired Dachshund, I'll be back.

Very cute! I was so happy to find beautiful German Shepherd cards, and I couldn't be happier with the shipping speed. In addition, that is the best looking thank you insert I have ever received from an Etsy seller. My GSD and I thank you very much!

About

It all started with a rectangular Home Depot pencil.

I studied a little art in High School and at the Governor's Honors Program. I'm not going to say exactly how long ago that was, but it has been some time! I studied Theatre Arts in college (after toying with both Chemistry and Political Science/Sociology first) and then changed direction completely after college and went to school to learn the fine art of training dogs.

Training dogs has always been, and will always be, in my blood. I really do feel a deep kindred connection with dogs. One afternoon about 10 years ago I remember having some time to kill when an appointment I had at my training kennel cancelled. I saw a picture of a cute Schnauzer in a book. I picked up some paper and the closest thing I could find...a Home Depot contractor's pencil. I started to draw. I hadn't drawn anything in years. I completed the picture fairly quickly and was more or less pleased with how it turned out. I wasn't prepared for the reaction I would get from everyone else. My kennel staff, my other trainer, my husband, and all our clients encouraged me to do more. I did.

My husband bought me a good set of charcoals and real drawing pencils and paper. Before long I had given three dog portraits as gifts and was offered payment to do a dog portrait for someone to be given as a wedding gift. A move to New England for a few years saw a lull in my artwork. I was trying hard to establish myself as a dog trainer in an area where only a few other dog trainers knew me. I wasn't a very happy person at that time. Thankfully we moved back to the south and I was able to walk right back into training dogs. That's when art really came back into my life, and with a lot more color. I began doing dog portraits as gifts again, and friends and clients began to commission pieces again. I started doing some portraits of children, too.

Since the birth of my son in 2008 art and training have sort of switched places on my priority ladder. My son was born with a congenital heart defect, and the first year of his life presented quite a few struggles for our family. Being home with him was at first a necessity, and then just a blessing and joy when it was no longer necessary. He's doing extremely well right now, and in preschool, which gives me time to work on art projects and go running (which keeps me fit and sane).

I've added some digital photography to the palette lately to accommodate my son's interests. I love to photograph old trains and tractors and bugs and plants while wandering museums and woods with him. I hope that my photography and portraiture skills continue to develop and improve as I really start to make a go of life as an artist. I'm really enjoying exploring different combinations of media and combining both my passion for dog training and dog portraiture to create some unique works of art. Check out my Facebook page for current contests and promotions, and my website for additional products. More pictures will be posted here soon. Thanks for visiting, and know that I always appreciate honest feedback!
