Announcement   Christmas is coming and my cut off date will most likely be in early October. At that time I will be closed for a period of time to help offset the amount of work I will have at Christmas time...so I can enjoy some time with the family. Please keep an eye on my shop since I will update once I have specific dates.
My current build time for all items (with exception to the occasional ready to ship item) is approx 8-10 weeks. I've been extremely busy, and generally target the 8 week time frame...but in some cases it can be up to 10 weeks. If I expect delays for any reason I will be sure to contact you. Please note that I do periodically close down and stop taking new orders so I can catch up on my work. I take my lead times very seriously and if I feel things are starting to overwhelm me, I will close for a few days to a week to give myself some additional time (if I work too quickly I can very easily lose a finger....knock on wood) I appreciate your patience.

Heirloom quality Custom Woodworking, Bulletin and Chalk Boards Organizers, Calendar Frames, Key Hooks, Tea Light Holders, Furniture, Cutting Boards and more! I am located just outside of Toronto Ontario, Canada. I've been working with wood for a number of years now and like to challenge myself with new and more difficult projects. I like to build pieces that are functional, beautiful, and that will get better (and look better) as they age. There is something to be said to having one's handmade work spread around the world....hopefully one my grandchildren or great grandchildren will come across one of my pieces long after I am gone and take some pride in what Grandpa made. I'm not that old yet....I'm just thinking ahead! ;o)

I believe in providing a high quality product at a fair price, and I hope to hear from you soon!

Ask me about custom colors and sizes for your item! I welcome requests for custom versions of the items I have posted here on Etsy (size, color, material etc...) and also items you may not be able to find elsewhere. Convo's and quotes are free....so feel free to ask away!

I was VERY excited for this. Then Very disappointed when it came. I ordered the size that would fit a "mall wall calendar", but it seems EVERY mall wall calendar in the USA does not fit this. I had to order a special " artsy" calendar on line and I am not excited about it. I currently have to hold my calendar in there with masking tape. If you do order this make sure you give him the measurements of calendar brand you like. I am not stuck buying folk art calendars for as long as I have it! UHHHH!!!

Dear valued customer, It’s very unfortunate that you feel this way. Indeed there is no such thing was a standard calendar size and the item listed is specifically designed for calendars measuring 24” tall when open and either 13 3/8” or 13 1/2” wide…a common size for AMCAL and Lang calendars. This info is included in the listing and the measurements are also clearly stated. These calendars are available online or especially in malls at year end being sold from kiosks that are set up to take advantage of a sudden year end demand/need for calendars. Through our correspondence I have offered to have the item returned which was gracefully declined, but I wish you the best, and thank you for your continued support of the handmade movement. About

How my Woodworking began.....

My story? It's a little "longish"...., It was late in the year 2000....my wife and I had just had our first child...a little girl. A busy time full of stress but also a wonderful time since it was a start of a new phase of my life with my growing family. One day my wife asked me if I could build a small table for my daughter to use for the occasional lunch or snack and for her to put her tea set on, nothing fancy (I think she just wanted me out of the house actually). I had no tools...well, nothing more than the typical dad would have in his garage.

I spent the next few weeks working on my creation whenever I could find time using what little tools I had and scrounging for any lumber I could find, mostly construction grade lumber. I struggled with it and made my share of mistakes but eventually it was completed, multicolored paint and all. I couldn't believe how well it turned out and how much I enjoyed the process of putting it together. When working on the table all other thoughts would put aside and any stress would magically disappear. That table was not fine furniture by any stretch of the imagination, but seeing it being used by my daughter and eventually my son gave me a feeling of accomplishment I had never experienced before...a great deal of love went into that table and the seed was planted for what would be a whirlwind of woodworking over the following years.

After that I read anything I could get my hands on relating to to this new obsession/hobby. More tools followed and I became interested in pushing my skill to the next level with everything I made...new techniques, new materials, new ideas....It wasn't good enough to use screws or to take shortcuts, I wanted to make things the "better" way even though it took a little longer My finishing skills were honed and hand tools became a key part of my new "hobby".

The day finally came where I had nothing to build....I had covered most of our own requirements (as well as our friends and family) and things began to really slow down. That's where Etsy came in. I was encouraged by a few people to open a shop and see where it would take me, and it's been wonderful. The shop has been an outlet for me to practice and perfect my skill and I'm loving every minute of it!

What happened to that table? My kids out grew it eventually and so we passed it on to friends who could make better use of it. I often think about that table, and the impact something small like that had on my life. Now I put the same care into everything I make whether it is for family or for Etsy.

If there is something in my shop you like but it just wont fit in your space or meet your needs...drop me a line. My designs are always evolving and my product line is always growing....changes can be accommodated!

Hi there,

I'm located near Toronto Ontario Canada and I believe in building furniture without the use of metal fasteners where possible (just like the old days) and using hand tools for many tasks. I take the time to select my material to provide the best appearance and am will to work with the buyer to provide a custom piece. I generally use hardwoods with no Pine because I find Pine much too soft to stand up to the rigors of everyday life. Feel free to contact me if you would like a custom version of any my shop items since most of my work really is custom and that's what I enjoy doing most.

Thanks!

Shipping
**note that Canada Post may be on strike as of July 2nd. I will be using Purolator or alternate until the labor dispute has been resolved.**

I will be shipping through Canada Post and the USPS ground/surface service for all standard listings in my shop. I do insure my items for damage and loss with the postal service....this is included in my prices and is not an additional cost. Details of shipping and care instructions will be communicated once the item is in the mail. Delays in shipping are really out of my control, but if the standard times are exceeded beyond a reasonable time or there is damage I will deal directly with the Post Office on your behalf.

Please note that International Orders may be liable for customs fees. I do not cover the customs charges as each country is different. For estimated delivery time please contact me, especially for European customers. Surface delivery is used to reduce shipping costs but it does take longer to deliver (typical time for overseas is 4-5 weeks but this time can vary).

***IMPORTANT INFORMATION - PLEASE READ! *****
I've had a number of orders recently with incorrect address information entered into ETSY & PayPal. As a result the cost of the shipping increased (as does the delivery time). Please take a moment to confirm your shipping address is accurate Any additional charges as a result of an incorrect address will be the buyer's responsibility (ie. when the item is sent back to me as "Return to Sender" due to incorrect address information.)
Refunds and Exchanges
I always insure my standard item shipments. In cases of loss or delivery appropriate action will be taken This could be for repair, replacement, or refund depending on the specific situation. Custom item builds are non returnable, but the same conditions apply where there is damage or loss of shipment.

Please contact me if you have any concerns or questions.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use colors other than the given options?

Absolutely. I can use almost any color! As a reference you can use either the Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams Color charts to make selections. There is an additional charge of $25 CAD and the color change only applies to painted items. If you would like this option just let me know the color you would like through a message and I will create a custom order for you to purchase. Ready to ship items can not have color changes. If you have any additional questions please feel free to ask! For those looking to match or figure out how the white will look with trim....I use Benjamin Moore Colour #CC-40 “CLOUD WHITE”.

Can I change the size or some aspect of the design for the items you offer?

In most cases yes. There are some limitations due to the existing size of some inserts (most notably the calendar dry erase items) and shipping constraints, but size changes can usually be accommodated. The charge for custom size or design changes depends on the specifics of what the changes are but if you contact me and let me know what sort of changes you would like I can put a price together for you which will include any possible shipping charge changes.

What Colors do you use? Is the picture accurate?

Well...monitor settings and pics can always leave a bit question when it comes to colour. I do my best to make sure the photos are accurate. For reference here is some info for the colors used. Barn Red and Yellow are both milk paint so I am working on getting an accurate x-reference for these. Please contact me if you are looking for the Red or Yellow color information.

Black - Black
White - Benjamin Moore Colour #CC-40 “CLOUD WHITE”
Brown - Benjamin Moore Colour #2114-10 “BITTERSWEET CHOCOLATE”

Why does it take 8-10 weeks to ship?

It's not just the time to build, but the time to keep up with the demand. I've been very busy with orders coming in and I'm a one man show. I build items in the order they are placed except where I see opportunity to build multiples of a single item that will reduce the time for everyone. I may take a little longer than some, but I will never cheat on quality and if that means taking just a little longer to build it right then that's how it needs to be. Like my better half says; It may take a little longer now, but years from now all you will say is that it is a high quality item, not that it took 8-10 weeks. This is my goal. (and to keep all my fingers)

How do you price your items?

I give each item the attention and time it deserves and I only use materials that I feel is of the highest quality...lumber, hardware, inserts, finish, etc. I work by hand and believe the prices are fair considering what goes into each piece. Prices are in $CAD so there may be some fluctuation based on the current exchange rate if viewing in $USD or other currency (this can also explain the price not being rounded off in currencies other than CAD). My goal is to make items that will last that can be passed on to future generations. As my banner says...."Heirlooms in the making".

How do you support shipping? Is it the customer's responsibity if something "goes wrong"?

I insure all items that leave my shop. If there is damage I ask that photo's be sent to me of the box and the item damage so I can make an insurance claim with the postal service. Depending on the amount of damage the buyer may opt to keep the insurance claim (it is usually a portion of the value to the nearest $100 CAD below the price) or request a new item to replace the old one (in which case the insurance would cover the replacement cost). These things happen very rarely but by no means think that you are responsible to sort things out, we'll get through it together. In cases where the item is lost in shipment it would be treated similarly but would be dependent on the postal service finishing an investigation.

How long does shipping take?

For USA and Canada orders typical time is about 5 business days.
For Ontario orders it is usually a little shorter at 3-4 business days.
Local orders in the Greater Toronto Area can be in 1-2 business days.
For overseas the shipping time can vary but Canada Post does advise that times can exceed 4 weeks.
NOTE: These times are estimates and can be exceeded in some cases..for example, in my experience January and February are notorious for having longer delivery times.
For places not included above just let me know and I'll look it up for you. Times are also communicated when items are being shipped.
Tracking with Canada Post and the USPS can be done through Etsy in your order section or at www.canadapost.ca / www.usps.com.

Do you still have hair on your head?

No! Arghhhhh..!!!

Can I order more hooks than shown?

Absolutely....if you are interested just send me a note and I can let you know the cost and if the requested number of hooks will fit on any given design. For ready to ship items this can not be accommodated.

Why are the majority of your items made to order?

I do occasionally offer items that are already made but for the most part most customers are looking for customization for insert type (cork/chalkboard/dry erase/calendar, color, size, hook type, etc...). It was just too difficult to provide for every version of an item so instead I decided to focus on the customization of certain designs to ensure I provide the perfect item for my customers.
