ProperLadyVintagePro...a lovely shop with QUALITY, MODERN, FASHIONABLE VINTAGE. BOHO to HIGH FASHION CLOTHING, SHOES FASHION JEWELRY. I'm just beginning to list a HUGE COLLECTION OF TOBACCIANA, SASCHA BRASTOFF, FINE ART AND COLLECTIBLES.

DROP IN AND BROWSE - sure to find a treasure that excites.

KLFexpressions has evolved into a treasure hunt of sorts - a drop dead gorgeous cabochon next to a listing for a pendant or pair of earrings. oh - and there are the barrettes. yup I am a jill of all trades and more proficient in some than in others. use the search function or just wander into the pages...a jewel of some sort on every one...it suits me and suits my balance in life to be involved with several mediums at once. I do no longer any silver smithing due to eye surgeries so modifications or custom metal work is not possible. I love to do the hunter/gatherer thing finding the good raw stone stock to work.

i love cutting cabs - it seems magical how a stone reveals it's true nature layer after layer. from a nondescript looking rock to a beautiful gleaming piece of art. i envy each and every buyer as they get to make their own unique creation. happy to you and enjoy making your heart's desire.
i have scanned cabochons on ETSY that have been cut by others. many of the stones are gorgeous. some are cut very well - some will be very difficult if not impossible to set with traditional backed bezel setting. the shape of the cabochons are interesting but the sharp, sharp points in the design do not make them user friendly. getting a bezel around them neatly is going to be some frustrating and most likely unsightly business. any silversmith will know that...and that is the difference between someone who has set stones and also cuts them and someone who is strictly a stone cutter. HOWEVER these sharp angled cabochons are often used for the wire wrapping technique. some of my cabs are suited for wire wrapping as opposed to a bezel set but if you are a metal smith with a bezel set in mind i will take the sharp off a cab that may have one, at no cost of course.i am happy to custom cut a cab for either technique.. i do have a bias, but have seen some excellent wire wrapped work - they are wrapped pieces done to be tight and to last - others are somewhat flimsy and i often wonder will the stone drop out and be lost, or hit the ground and break. it looks inevitable that the stone will come out....the finished piece will most likely not be in your jewelry box in 20 years. i was in convo with a man who's wire wrap work was simply awesome and made to be worn and stay intact, so i know it can be done...
if one of the cabochons is just not quite the shape you wish to have , providing there is enough stone to work with i can adjust the shape or size.
what makes a good cabochon? there is an angle on the sides of the cab which enables the stone to be firmly set in a bezel - if a picture of a cabochon shows it standing on it's side with no other support, the angle is not going to make for a solid bezel cup setting even with an adhesive used to anchor the stone to it's backing. and there is the "corners" issue - the stones are lovely, good quality rock and dramatic BUT sterling and especially fine silver bezel wire can be easily split, cut or cracked trying by working it around a sharp edged stone.
these are the a couple of differences between a lovely stone for viewing and one for working with. so my advice to any buyer is to look carefully and choose wisely...look for possible fractures as opposed to fracture that has naturally healed and become a bit or a lot filled with the natural agate way of nature. look for signs of flaking - some stones have a naturally tendency to flake.. some it is the pattern.

IT'S ALWAYS FREE SHIPPING IN THE U.S.- anything that has a shipping price is a throw back to when i had my jewelry on the site as well and had a brain poof when listing . if you should run across that when looking to purchase email me first so i can correct the listing. if you should purchase before you notice the shipping i will automatically refunded you charge to your PAYPAL account, I ALSO DO PARTIAL REFUNDS TO A BUYERS ACCOUNT ON INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING to only charge the ACTUAL COST OF SHIPPING i chose Australia as my "destination" and set the international costs for there - even then i find my orders from Australia get about a $3 return into their paypal account.

.happy creating and many sales for you!!

Top notch stone at a great value, beautiful glittering sparkles and glowing color in person! Great communication from seller- checked to make sure I saw it was curved and gave me a great new tip on setting. Thanks again!

About

once upon a time

I was a silversmith until i had several eye surgeries and could no longer see the fine detail, but i can still cut cabs. The cabs offered are some bought from others and some i cut myself...

I have some of the best OLD STOCK VINTAGE TURQUOISE, mostly authentic SLEEPING BEAUTY CABOCHONS that i have seen still available. They were the score of a lifetime -stumbled upon them in Quartzite Arizona right after a widow had brought them to the store/trading post and GAVE THEM to the owner with the understanding that the shop owner would clear her basement of all the rough turquoise her late husband had accumulated over the years while working in the mines.
He would bring his lunch to work in a lunch box and bring the rock home in the empty lunch box. Back then the mine owners didn't mind what was then consider a paltry amount of small chunks leaving the site. they wanted the BIG CHUNKS and the smaller pieces were put aside. He later had some of the "smaller" chunks cabbed and the pieces were suitable for smaller pieces but made beautiful clear, rich blue cabs....and when he passed it was all in the basement of his house and the wife was overwhelmed....

hi and welcome to KLF EXPRESSIONS...
i provide quality cabochons at a reasonable price and will custom cut cabochons* at no additional cost. *i can only cut cabochons for which i have raw material to work with and often can find suitable raw material on-line if a customer is patient..

also happy to cut cabochons for customers who have their own raw material provided if it is of a raw material suitable to cut, ie: no true fractures, no crumbly or not solid rock, and enough to work with. i am not responsible for unsuitable quality raw material sent to me. my policy for shipping remains the same with the exception of the customer pays shipping the raw to me...please contact me ahead of time to set this service up.

THANKS, have a great day and many successes to you!

Kay
