I bought this adorable soft blue sandpiper shirt for my son and then bought a purple one for my niece. Thanks Kristin! We love it.

I absolutely love this soft little blue sandpiper shirt, bought for my toddler. Kristin helped with recommendation for sizing, got the color I wanted and the finished product was adorable, plus the packaging was so cute.

KLTworks is the blending of art, craft, & design.

In 2005, I walked in to my studio, became immersed in the creative bubble, and just started making things. It was during a time of change for me vocationally and I was at a bit of a crossroad. Creating and making always calms my mind and puts a smile on my face. It didn’t take long before I had created a fairly cohesive body of work. Listening to feedback, it became clear to me that my audience was a younger crowd – and by that I mean children & babies (and their parents). I have always been in awe of a child’s mind and unedited creativity. It seemed like a natural step to create things with that in mind, for the people that would appreciate my creations the most. So, mobiles, plush, & apparel started to flow out of my studio & I began to sell my work to shops & people across the world. Additionally, I am a trained artist /painter that holds a MFA in Fine Art from The School of Visual Arts in NYC. Selling my wares allows me to work in the studio full time and live the creative life with my family that makes me happy - along with taking care of my (now) five year old.

My artistic background allows me to approach my creations/products with a painter’s eye- being concerned with color, texture, form, and process. Being an enthusiast of all things modern, I am also a believer in the concept of form following function. The images that I use in my designs are actually drawn with the sewing machine as my drawing tool. I use my ability to drawn more than my ability to sew. When I draw, I use a piece of stiff, painter’s canvas, thread, & a darning foot on my machine- this allows me to be able to move the canvas around “free motion”. I draw until I feel the drawing is complete. Due to the lack of perspective (the canvas is flat & my line of vision is limited), I don’t draw the image first- I rely on luck. I like to use one continuous thread as well. My images are generally animals that appeal to me and that are found in the Pacific Northwest (where I live). Although they also may come from requests from people, including my son. After I finish a drawing, it is then prepared to screen print by hand, onto fabric & apparel. The thing I love about using the sewing machine as a drawing tool is that it uses all of my brain at one time. It uses the right side of my brain to figure out what to draw and how to draw it- then my left to make sure I don’t run over my finger with the needle.

Thanks for visiting the klt:works Etsy shop.
In 2005 I started klt:works, were I began designing a children’s line of nursery décor & wearables for the modern baby and their parents. The characters that I create are used in my watercolor and collage prints, mobiles, plush, onesies & tees.
You will find a sample of the variety of items that I make for klt:works in this shop. My studio is currently overflowing with inspirational fabrics and my mind is full of fun new ideas. I am really excited to offer some one-of-a-kind products. Having fun, experiencing vibrant colors, soft textures, modern inspiration, and lots of dots is what klt:works is all about. Enjoy!
