About

KOLYA

In 2000 I went to live in Ireland and worked there as an upholsterer after finishing the Wood and Furniture College in Amsterdam.
Next to my full time job I started to make footstools and covered them in 1970's fabrics from Sweden and Germany.

I took part in an arts and crafts week with my own work and got a great positive response. From there on I started to use materials and create things that I liked, with a little glimpse of hope that other people might like it too.

I work from home where I make my pinafore dresses from old duvets/vintage&new fabrics/curtains etc. I use to sew on a very old machine but now I finally got my Bernina machine,,, the joys of it!!!!!

The knitting I do in front of the computer where I watch loads of documentaries (I dont have a tv) or listen to some Asgeir Trausti from Iceland. I knitted a scarf for myself last winter, posted it and I have been knitting the rest of the winter for again, enthousiastic people who also wanted one. I even had to get some help from the best knitter in the world: my mum, otherwise the winter would have been over before they got them.

When I make the recycled bags I go to one of the workshops where I work as a freelance upholsterer. My boss is so kind to let me have my industrial sewingmachine there and the use of anything in the workshop. Besides doing the upholstery work I make simplistic tote bags from the leather that comes from the old sofa's. I use the inside and outside backs and any piece that is re-usable, chop chop chop the leather, clean it and sew it into a tote.

Besides the leather bags I make yogamat- bags from colourful cotton materials
