complex color for fiber artists

I’m inspired by the work of designers like Kaffe Fasset, and a Knitting Anarchist. I love the dark and moody as well as the floral. I study butterflies and bugs and feathers to find the colors beneath the colors.

I started out making self-striping yarns paired with semisolids as coordinates.
Then self-stripings with more self-stripings as partners,
then came Optical Tweeds!
and Magic Stripe
and Ombres
and Agate Stripes
and Magic Spots!

They’re beautiful, no lie. They’re soft, and bright, and pure yarny goodness. It’s a labor of love, and it takes a lot longer than I can charge for. It’s art, because I’m always thinking about the finished project…what are you going to make from this yarn? How will the fabric drape & stretch? How will the color runs behave in you’re knitting in the round? If you’re knitting a triangle shawl? If the row count is 72? What if it’s 64? What about 128?

My knitting and painting adventures are always linked, always ongoing, always happy to be shared. <3 New location, new studio, new set up for handpainting variegateds.

I’m a colorist fascinated by the liminal, by impressionism and pointilism, by the natural iridescence of butterflies and bugs and feathers. My job is to help other artists make their vision into reality. It's pretty magical.

Kama means Love. Suutra means Yarn!

Kama Suutra Fiber Arts is fueled by the excessive YarnLove of one Rue Meeks-Johnson. I've spent the last 5! years developing techniques to bring you beautiful, unique colorfast yarns that are as soft as they are scrumptious.
I hope you love my hand-painted yarns as much as I do.

Returns and exchanges
We want you to be happy with all your purchases, and to spread the word! To that end, if you are unhappy, please convo us and we will find a way to make it right.

That said, we cannot accept returns of items that have been cut, damaged, or are otherwise not in salable condition. Returns must be in perfect condition, and accompanied by their original label.
Clearance priced yarns (pink highlighter on label) are not returnable.
Kama Suutra Fiber Arts accepts payment through Paypal as the most convenient and safest method for both buyer and seller and treats the transaction as if paid in cash.
Shipping in the United States is by First Class Mail(USPS) and generally will ship in 2-3 days.

International Shipping can be expensive, but gets better when you buy more than one skein. I'm happy to refund any shipping overage thru PayPal.

A note about packaging materials. We receive a lot of packing material in the mail, and choose to recycle/re-use what we can. All materials are clean and in excellent condition, but we do use plastic to protect your yarn from weather that can sometimes penetrate the postal mailers. If you have any special concerns, please let us know.
