Announcement   Thank you for your interest in my work! I am contemporary Impressionist Painter, Karen Tarlton - oil paintings with a unique sense of color, texture and light. With loose strokes and bold use of color, I bring a unique perspective to the contemporary art world. My paintings are a visual journey that allow the essence of my subject matter to come to life. Here you will find my unique palette knife paintings and prints of my paintings. I create lively, engaging, colorful art, and my work is widely collected worldwide.
As of 2002, I have been creating a new painting almost every day. My artwork brings birds, cows, horses, flowers, and even angels to life. Landscapes, cityscapes, and boat-filled harbors become illuminated by majestic, textured light. I strive to infuse my paintings with energy, intimacy and brilliant color.
My preference for oils and an impressionistic style translate into high energy works, featuring sun-lit subjects saturated with color. My goal is to bring vibrancy and movement to my work in a signature style that involves painting from dark to light.
I am a student of the California impressionist school; where colorists bring intensity to their work with color value straight from the tube. In my paintings I keep the colors saturated, using violets and blues to replace black, and greens and oranges to replace browns.
My work is collected in galleries and private and corporate collections worldwide. Collectors in many countries, including the United States, Sweden, Malta, France, Italy, England, Ireland, Spain, Japan, Canada, Greece, Australia, and Singapore collect my work. I am currently licensed with companies such as Uptown Art, All My Walls, Dianoche Designs, AFrame Audio, and others who sell images of my artwork on blankets, towels, rugs, or illuminated canvas and metal. You may find my art reproduced by these companies on sites such as Wayfair, Houzz, One King's Lane, or Amazon, to name just a few. Prints and giclees of my work are also available in my Etsy store. Please contact me for use or licensing of my images.

This is a wonderful piece and is exactly how it looked on the etsy site and exactly what I envisioned in my home. I have bought from this seller before and would absolutely buy from her again. Service is great also.

About

The artist's world is limitless. It can be found anywhere, far from where she lives or a few feet away. It is always on her doorstep.

I am a military spouse, married 27 years. I paint whimsical animals and figures, textural florals, landscapes and cityscapes and my work has a large online worldwide following. I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to study the artwork of master painters across the country. My travels to Europe and many military moves across our country have provided a new dimension to my art in terms of subject matter and application.
Sweeping color, texture and impressionism are the words that describe what I love to do. I am more concerned with creating a mood with rough beauty, emotional honesty and bold color. My travels all over the world as a military spouse have inspired me intensely. Nothing inspires me more than a trip to a new destination and we have moved 20 times in 27 years to states all over the country and places all over the world. I am inspired by a sunset, a child, or a tree in morning light. The master painters that have most inspired me are Van Gogh and Picasso for their unbelievable vision, work ethic, and passion.
I work primarily on canvas in oil with a palette knife, using this technique for many years now. My techniques allow for interesting textural possibilities and complex color layers in an expressive, impressionistic style which borders on abstract.

I am currently licensed with companies such as Uptown Art, All My Walls, Dianoche Designs, AFrame Audio, and others who sell images of my artwork on blankets, towels, rugs, and illuminated canvas among other items. You may find my art reproduced by these companies on sites such as One King's Lane, Rue La La, Josh and Main and Walmart.
In 2015, I was commissioned by Tupelo Honey Cafe, Inc to create Series of paintings for a new Tupelo Honey Restaurant in Arlington, VA.

I use a palette knife and oils to integrate light, color and texture. My high energy works, feature sun-lit subjects saturated with color, painted thickly, dark to light. A California impressionist; intensity with color value straight from the tube.
