Kim has some fantastic creative hat making skills! I enjoyed her skills and communication throughout the process. It can be scary ordering a custom made hat sight unseen…but you can trust her authentic approach and patience.

From Sewing. To Millinery. To Jewelry.....

As a girl, I used to sit and watch my mom sew and had a desire to do the same. One day, while sewing at the kitchen table she showed me how to make a tube dress for my "Chrissy" doll. I still remember my first project. It was of a durable cotton cloth with an American flag print.

My dad has always dabbled in some artistic form. It was normal to find him sketching, painting or sculpting. My paternal grandmother was amazing! She would create formal dresses of brocade, cover her shoes in the same cloth, make her own jewelry and hats!

I'm so thankful for those creative genes that have been passed on to me. My interest in sewing later led me to major in fashion design and finish at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. At that time, Parsons School of Design in New York was our sister school. I attended summer courses at Parsons as well as our affiliate school The American College in Paris.

After graduating, I worked in the industry for a couple of years in L.A. and then on to New York to design leather outerwear for another two years. During that time our boss would send us to Europe, where we "shopped for knowledge" and sought inspiration.

Towards the end of my New York stint, my husband came and proposed to me. Not too long afterward, I moved back home and we got married. When I was carrying our daughter, about 17 years ago, I took a millinery class. This was an illuminating experience for me as hat blocking was always so intriguing.
Since those early days, I've worked craft shows, created a children's wear line and also taught with Oakland Unified School District's Older Adult Program for 12 years. While teaching a Decorative Arts class within the program, some of the ladies wanted to learn to make jewelry. I didn't know anything about it so we all learned together! It's been a wonderful ride as I found a hidden passion in jewelry making. It's been nearly 5 years now.
My passion for jewelry making has consequently lead me to sell my jewelry online. It helps to justify spending all that money on beads ;o) I'm so glad for the opportunity to sell on Etsy. It is such a wonderful community. I love the networking possibilities, the window shopping through favorites, the forums and...........there is just way too much to write about here.
Please take a look around my shop and let me know if you have any questions. I'm here to serve you!

Owner, Creating Custom Jewelry & Millinery

My mom taught me to sew when I was in the third grade. Made my outfits and my girlfriends; by the seventh grade. Today I create jewelry using copper and semi-precious stones. Currently, I'm also enjoying a renewed passion of creating straw hats!

I am very happy to receive your custom orders!

Custom orders are final sales.

My straw hats are "One Of A Kind" (OOAK). If you have a color or design in mind, I can create one for you as a custom order. Depending on the type of straw, detail and trim of the hat, the base price for your custom order can be as low as $80, but in most cases not more than $165. I can also make the flat travel straw hats. These range from $80-100.

When creating a hat from my listings, please keep in mind that each hat is hand dyed and hand blocked. It is original and the color of dye and shape may vary. While I try my hardest to replicate the design, it is often to be exactly like the original. Often times the customer prefers the variances, and are thrilled with the outcome.
During the design process I keep my costumer abreast of any changes and they are given the opportunity to chime in with their own personal contributions.

Please measure your head with a cloth tape measure where the hat will be worn. Sometimes the synthetic tape measures stretch. I generally add 1/4-3/4" ease the the finished measurement, depending upon hair thickness.

--------- HAT SIZES -----------
XSMALL 20.7 inches (52.7cm)
SMALL 21-21.6 inches (54-55cm)
MEDIUM 22-22.5 inches (56-57cm)
LARGE 22.8-23.2 inches (58-59cm)
XLARGE 23.5-24 inches (60-61cm)

I also create jewelry. Please cut and paste into your browser, the link below to see some of the pieces I've made.

A Bit on Copper...

Earring hooks or ear wires
I make most of my ear wires by hand and most are copper. You may request sterling silver hooks for an additional charge of $2 per pair of earrings.

I use a lot of copper in my designs. I like the warmth of the color. Just like a copper penny; the copper will eventually oxidize after several wearings. Some people prefer this "antiqued" effect. If you do not, just clean with a copper cleaner or take a cotton applicator and generously apply ketchup on the oxidized wire. Wait several minutes and rinse. Try not to apply ketchup directly to any stones.

Some people prefer to oxidized or "antiqued effect". For no additional charge, I am very happy to oxidize your copper jewelry purchase. Just ask me.

Please feel free to convo me with any questions. I am here to serve you!
