About

Turning a passion for creating ceramics into a business at my own pace

Ceramics became my main hobby almost 20 years ago when we turned one bay of our garage into a pottery studio, allowing me to work in clay outside of the classes I was taking at the local community college. For the next few years I created and gave away many cups, bowls and other items that were taking up more and more space in my studio. When I participated in a few pottery sales events, I found out that others appreciated my talents and would actually pay to take something home - yes!! Unfortunately, having far too many migraines kept me from doing very many of these kinds of events, so my created items once again started to take over available space. I started wondering about online sales and at that point found out about Etsy. Etsy is a great fit for me, since I get to stay at home and still have contact with the rest of the world, whether or not I have a headache. :)

A few years ago we decided to build my dream studio and free up the garage space I was taking, so now I have a wonderful place to create in! Everything to do with Etsy is done by me, so this adventure has taught me many new skills (photographic, sales, marketing, +) and will continue to stretch me, I'm certain. My husband is a great handyman, so between us my studio keeps chugging along. :)

Thanks for checking me out!

I've been playing with clay for over 20 years now. The first 5 years were spent at Sierra College, our local Community College. I spent the last 2 years there working as the Ceramics Technician, which taught me at least as much as the classes I took.

Thanks for visiting my store! My name is Kathy Greaves and I've been working in clay for almost 20 years now. I try to make pottery that is beautiful as well as functional, fitting well in your hand or on the table while also enjoyable to your senses. I believe that handmade pottery is meant to be used, while still providing that special warmth that a machine-made item can't offer. Feel free to contact me for answers to any questions.

I fire my ceramics in an electric kiln to about 2200 deg F (cone 6), making them strong and water-tight. All of my glazes are lead free and food safe, unless stated otherwise. The food safe ceramics are also dishwasher and microwave safe.

Payment
I accept PayPal and Etsy Direct Checkout, both of which accept credit cards as well as other payment options. Orders shipped to California addresses will be charged sales tax.
Shipping
I will try to fulfill your order within 2 working days of receipt of payment. I normally ship USPS priority mail, but if you prefer FedEx or UPS, or other extras such as gift wrapping, just let me know and we can work it out. If you are in another country, any customs, fees, etc, will be your responsibility. International orders will be shipped using USPS International Priority Mail services. If you would like insurance, an alternative carrier or other shipping changes, just contact me and we can work it out.
Refunds and Exchanges
I try to pack items so that they will not be broken in shipping by wrapping the item in bubble wrap and I may double box them with packing peanuts between the boxes as needed. I generally use recycled shipping supplies, keeping our transaction more ecofriendly. If an item arrives damaged, please return it and I will be happy to refund the cost of the item and all of your shipping costs.
You may find that the item is not the exact color you expected. I try to photograph it to get the best color match possible, but there may be some difference when you receive the actual item. If this happens to you with other items you buy online as well, try adjusting your monitor settings. If you are less than pleased with the item when you receive it, you may return it for exchange credit or a refund and I'll pay 1/2 of the total cost of shipping.
Additional policies and FAQs
I take special orders if I believe I can fulfill them to both of our satisfaction; contact me and we can discuss it if you have a request. Because I make double the number of requested items so that the customer has more say and a greater chance of being satisfied, there will be a 50% surcharge. Of course, if you decide you want all of the items made, there will be a discount for the extras. The turnaround time is up to a month or more.
