About KaylaRayVinyls

Sales 934
On Etsy since 2017

Just a girl with nail polish addiction and an odd sort of job

I'm an archivist by trade with a really quite unreasonable amount of nail polish and a creative streak that keeps my brain constantly moving. I started Kayla Ray Vinyls after struggling to find interesting decals that were small and strong enough to actually stick to my small and curved nails.

How do I use nail guides and stencils?

The most important thing is to start with completely dry polish. If your nail polish isn't completely dry, then the stencil will it pull off. Either use a quick dry top coat and wait an hour or two or wait overnight. If you can still dent your polish, it isn't dry enough.

Apply stencil/guide over your nail and press firmly in to place. Apply polish over the stencil and then immediately remove the stencil. It is best to work one nail at a time. For complex designs, less than opaque polish or thicker polish, apply the polish using a makeup sponge.

Allow you nails to dry for 5-10 minutes, then apply a topcoat.

Can I use nail vinyls with gel polish?

You sure can! Just do your nails as per the directions of your gel system including top coat. Remove the tacky layer and apply your decal, then apply another coat of top coat and cure. Do not apply vinyls over uncured gel polish.

The decal will not affect the removal process.

To use a stencil or guide, apply your gels as per the directions, including top coat. Remove tacky layer, and apply stencil or guide and brush polish over vinyl. Remove vinyl quickly and flash cure (3-5 seconds until LED light, 10-15 under UV) before moving on to the next nail. Cure, then proceed to top coat.

For a sharper/more opaque design, use regular polish and finish with a regular top coat or wait several hours and apply a gel top coat .

Sizing details

Decals are sized to fit nails without needing to be trimmed. Most decals are between 1/3 or 1/4 of an inch. A few are smaller. Exact sizes available on request.

If you would like specific sized decal, leave a note in the order comments. I will happily size up a set at no charge if possible, so long as the finished decal set is no larger than 2.5" x 2.5". If I am unable to resize, I will message you before processing your order so you can decide how to proceed.

If you want a smaller design, message me. Some designs can be made smaller, but others cannot due to the intricacy of the design.

Stencils and Guides are typically 3/4 to 1" wide. Length varies on the design. Exact measurements available on request. Custom sizes also available.

How do I apply nail decals?

Decals are best applied over dry polish. At the very least, polish that is no longer tacky.

For best results peel decal off backing paper with tweezers and apply directly to the nail. Dust, dirt, even the oils from your fingers will reduce the decals ability to stick.

For the longest wear, apply a non quick dry top coat. A quick dry top coat will shrink, and lift the edges of the decal, making it easy to accidentally peel off. Seche Vite is a major culprit of this.

A lightless gel top coat is the best. Revlon Gel Envy (my go-to), Sally Hansen Miracle Gel, Essence Gel, OPI Infinite Shine all have good top coats in those lines. Look for a top coat that boasts a voluminous or plumping look. These will hold the decal on the strongest.
