a beautifully made dress that I can't wait to wear to a family wedding in 8 months! kcoline was wonderfully responsive and thoughtful down to the smallest detail. she kindly asked whether I would be travelling over the holidays, so that I could receive my dress at the address where I was staying. thank you!

Hello

About me:
I am an independent designer.
I make all of my pieces from start to finish,
they are all handmade and sometimes one of a kind,
mostly from scratch and sometimes altered.
I specify it for each piece.

About you:
You as a buyer are amazing. It takes courage to buy independent designer's clothes online, we got some serious competitors with mass produced, good looking and very affordable brands.
Sure we don't make the same clothes, we don't sell at the same prices either, buying to us is more of an ethical decision or an investment because you are supporting an individual when buying to an independent designer.
Thank you so much for your trust and alternative thinking, you are making a difference.

I am here to answer any of your questions and make your experience of buying independent clothing online easier.
I give precise measurements for each item, if you need help with taking your own measurements go to the "additional information" section below and/or contact me if you need more details.

Below are my policies, I hope you'll find them fair for both of us.

Payment
Regular orders:
I only ship upon payment (fully received), then I ship within 4 days unless mentioned previously or extraordinary circumstances.
convo me if you need payment arrangements, we certainly can work things out.

Custom orders:
Most of the time I charge a flat fee of $90 for custom orders. My consultation ( helping you in the process of picking fabric, color, texture and design changes) is free, I do charge for the time fabric shopping and mostly for pattern grading (changing the pattern to your exact body measurements, hours and hours of work) and for making the piece.
Attention: for complex pieces and special body requirements, in order to guarantee a perfect fit I offer the option of making a muslin mock. We will discuss the price of this extra work.

WEDDING DRESSES: please contact me for an estimate. Purchasing a mock is absolutely required unless in NYC and available for fittings, pricing is subject to change until design and material choices are set.

deposit:
Usually half of the payment of a custom order is required before I start making it but is treated case by case.

Sales tax:
NY state residents must pay for sales tax. As of feb, 2010, the % vary depending on your location %7 to 9.5. To determine the amount due I will need the shipping destination in NY state ( convo me with your exact address).
If you already purchased the item, I will invoice you the sales tax amount.

Thank you

Additional policies and FAQs
also:

it is very IMPORTANT that you take your measurements properly, I am not responsible for a bad measurement but I do want to avoid it.
A local tailor can do it for you or you can do it yourself following the following general instructions.
They are very specific, you can simplify if you want, I don't need all of them, I'll let you know which one I need.

Taking your Measurements: What You Will Need

1. Flexible measuring tape.
2. Masking tape or scotch tape (cut or tear into small strips to make reference marks).
3. Pen or pencil
4. a friend if possible

Instructions -

Take measurements over your underwear, or thin fitted clothing (not your usual day wear).
Always measure using the beginning/start of the measuring tape.
Take true body measurements, do not pull tightly on the tape and do not add allowances for ease, I do that for you. I need true body measurements.
Mark the points of references correctly, either by using a pen or a pencil. Keep the reference points on the body until you are finished.
Have a friend help you take the measurements if possible.

MEASUREMENT POINTS FOR TOPS, SHIRTS AND DRESSES (dresses also require hip)

::: NECK :::
Measure around your neck approximately where a shirt collar sits. (the tape is not quite horizontal. It needs to sit lower at the front, but above the collar bone)

::: BUST :::
Measure over the largest part of your bust with your bra on if you will wear the garment with a bra, keeping the measuring tape horizontal. (best done in front of a mirror)

::: UNDERBUST :::
Measure underneath your bust, (just under the underwire). It determines your cup size.

::: WAIST :::
Measurement is taken around the smallest part of your waistline.

::: UPPERARM :::
Measure around the largest part of your upperarm. (This should be about 2inches/5cm's down from your underarm point)

::: SHOULDER WIDTH :::
Measure from shoulder point to shoulder point letting the tape sit across the back of your neck. This is approximately where a fitted sleeve/shoulder seam should be.

::: ARM LENGTH :::
Measure from your shoulder point down your arm to your wrist. Slightly bend your elbow when taking this measurement, and measure to where you would like the cuff to sit.

MEASUREMENT POINTS FOR PANTS AND SKIRTS (and hip for dresses)

::: HIGH HIP :::
Around the hip bones, approximately 4inches/10cm below the waistline. Keep your heels together and the tape horizontal ( parallel to the floor)

::: The Widest Part Of The Hips :::
In front of a mirror, locate the fullest part of your hips. This is generally over the bottom, approximately 8 or 9 inches/20cm below natural waistline. Standing straight with your heels together, keep the tape parallel to the floor. Mark this point with masking tape or a pin for the next measurement.

::: Location Of The Widest Part Of Hips :::
Standing straight, with your heels together, measure down from your waistline to where your largest hip measurement was taken.

::: WAISTLINE FOR PANTS AND SKIRTS :::
Measurements are taken around your waistline or where you want to wear your pants. Locate your waist and put masking tape or a pin at the Center Front of Waistline. Measure around your body where you want your waist to be, keeping the tape horizontal
Hint: When taking your measurements, the tape measure should not be pulled tight. It should conform to your body shape in a relaxed manner, without slack.

::: Full Crotch :::
Distance between your waistline at your center front waistline and your center back waist (at spine). Keeping the tape measure close to the body (not too tight) measure from your back waist, passing through your legs, to the center back of your waistline (small of your back)

::: Inseam :::
Using a pair of pants that are a good length for you, measure from the lowest point of the crotch curve( where the seems meet), all the way down to the bottom where the pants stop.

::: Thigh :::
(Circumference of the thickest part of the thigh). Measure around the fullest part of your thigh, high up on the leg and just below the crotch. Place the measuring tape around it and measure. Hint: this is a critical measurement for the best fit. Make sure to keep the tape parallel to the waistline when taking this measurement. If you come up with 2 numbers, enter the larger number.

PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR MEASUREMENTS FOR ACCURACY.

Please include any other Comments (Fit preference ie-fitted/standard/loose fit and fit problems you may have experienced)

thank you
kcoline
