My Crafting Dream Come True!
I know exactly where my love of crafts comes from. From before I can remember (about 4-5 years old), I remember sitting on the floor in my grandmother's living room watching as she sat beside me in her rocking chair and would knit and crochet one beautiful thing after another. I'm pretty sure my parents thought there had to be something wrong with me. How many kids that age would just sit there for hours watching a woman weaving loops of yarn together with hooks and needles?! I was mesmerized by the fluid movements of my grandmother's hands as she guided the yarn around the hooks and needles to make her creations.
I first worked up the courage to ask her to teach me these beautiful crafts when I was 7. My first attempts did not go well. In fact I remember many times where I threw the yarn and needles down and refused to even look at another ball of yarn. By the end of that 2-week stay at Grandma's, I had lost hope of ever learning. Occasionally throughout my childhood and teenage years, I would pick up a hook or a pair of needles and try again, but unfortunately success just wasn't meant to be...yet.
When I was 10, on another trip to Grandma's house, I started to learn the basics of sewing on a machine. That was the other main craft of my Grandma's, and I was always helping in her sewing room! That love continued to grow strongly, and when I was 18, I purchased my first sewing machine with my first tax refund. It was a good, sturdy Kenmore, with about 30 stitches, and it could work with just about any fabric you could sew with, and it was all mine. I remember the first time I sat down at that machine. My mom had taken me to the fabric store as part of my birthday present, and had let me pick out a pattern and fabric to make myself a new outfit with. I still remember the gleam on my Grandmother's face when I showed off the outfit I had made all by myself. It wouldn't have been possible without all the years of watching how she did everything in her sewing room.
When I was 20, and living in my very own apartment for the first time, I once again tried to figure out how to knit and crochet, and at long last, success was mine! I finally managed to work that yarn into first a square, and then a scarf, and I've been doing it ever since.
Now, even though my Grandmother is unable to continue her crafts due to age and time, her love of those crafts lives on in me, and in her other grandchildren, and the ability to bring that love of crafts to others is why I do what I do!
I am in the process of re-focusing my business after evaluating sales and customer feedback! I am very excited to announce my new business that will focus on my new cloth diaper design and on baby care accessories for plus-sized moms such as front pack infant carriers, nursing pillows, and plus-sized maternity clothes!
