5 out of 5 starsBeautiful artwork. I should have purchased a larger canvass. This is a Christmas gift to myself and I cannot wait to frame it after the holiday (December 2022). Thank you for the prompt service.

5 out of 5 starsI bought an Original gyotaku from Ken. I have several gyotaku prints but this was my first original print. It came very quickly (I live on the opposite side of the country.) It was well protected. Compared to my copies of prints, the original looks much better when viewed close up. You can see the unique grain and small wrinkles where the wet mount Ma paper dried to the backing board. Not a sterile cookie cutter replication as in my normal prints. Very happy.
About KenDaraFishPrints
-
The fish is washed with detergent to remove the slim and dried. Paint is applied with a sponge applicator.
-
Paper is draped over the fish and rubbed with your hands to get the the transfer to the paper while the paint is wet.
-
The paper is removed from the fish very carefully and left to dry.
-
Since the eye or any other distinguishing marks will not tranfer on to the paper it is painted in by hand.
Love nature and the art of printing fish.
Ken Dara has been a graphic designer and has operated his own successful business for over 40 years, first in New Jersey and now retired Florida. He and his wife moved near the coast in Florida and the purchase of a boat provided him the opportunity to be on the water and connect to its natural beauty and wildlife.
Ken first learned of Gyotaku from other artists and was inspired by their work. At the present time, he researches and works with the traditional methods of printmaking, as well experiments with various inks, paints, papers.
Being a member of The Nature Print Society has given me the opportunity to study and teach with some of the best Gyotaku artist in the US and Japan.
