Funky pottery for every day life!

For nearly 30 years, I've worked as a professional illustrator (www.kestillustration.com) making work for books, magazines, calendars, greeting cards, wallpaper, a graphic novel, and more~ mostly in the children's science book and botanical genres. I've painted in oils and watercolors and learned digital illustration several years back.

But the muse of sculpting and the medium of clay has been calling me ever since I was a kid. After a brief visit to the home of Harlan Ellison in 1994, and seeing the gargoyles he had hung over his garage, I began sculpting gargoyles of my own. But it wasn't until 5 years ago when a dear friend gifted to me an entire pottery studio, kiln, etc., that I began experimenting in earnest. I began making Monsterpot prototypes and then started making eyeball mugs. When a gaming conference in Louisville, KY, hired me to make some award plaques for their art show, I discovered that I loved bas-relief and have now branched out into making artisanal tiles for special ordering. One thing always leads to another...

Lately, I've begun cauldrons and am having fun with developing my own glaze colors from scratch. Depending on where the muse takes me, I hope you're always pleasantly surprised by what you find here in my shop. If you want to learn even more, please go to my blog at www.kestpottery.com .

Love and light,
K2

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

Do I make custom tiles for interiors?

Yes I certainly do, but please bear in mind that custom orders of this kind require patience on the part of the customer and lots of planning on my end.

To give you some idea: It takes less than a day to sculpt the design for a tile, then it needs a day or two to dry enough to carve out finer details. The tile must be cast in a plaster mold(s) which then needs a week to cure.

Tiles are pressed out of the molds, which need a week to thoroughly dry, depending on humidity and temperature. The tile is then bisque-fired, glazed, and fired a second time, after which it is ready to be shipped.

Curious? Call me and let's discuss your project.

Can I make large batches of mugs with a special logo or design for your food establishment?

Yes, indeed! Call me and let's discuss what you have in mind.
