The Unbearable Lightness of Being

I am an artist specializing in upcycling and bringing new life to illustrations of the 60’s and 70’s. I love finding rare and unusual books and magazines around the markets and charity shops then choosing the precise combination of images that would inspire, entertain or make you pause to reflect. I like to make these visual communications delightful, comical and inspiring, and enjoy altering, juxtaposing, playing with scale, dimension and context in my hand-cut collage and illustration work.

I received an Honours degree in Fine Art from Glasgow School of Art in 2000. I specialised in photography, video and installation art. After that I volunteered in social projects around Europe and continued to practice my love of photography.

I always had a fascination for the forgotten ephemera, wandering in the flee markets and charity shops in search of gems. I finally focused on the joy and nostalgia of vintage magazines and books. I began to create collage from these gorgeous images, thus my love of collage was born.

Having a fascination for the psychology of advertising I began to borrow the techniques and imagery directly from the Ad industry and re-present them in my own unique delightful, often humorous way. Since then my work has evolved into more of a celebration of the beautiful and bizarre nature of advertising around the mid-20th century.
