How Rubeamy was formed...
Mom (Sunbeam): One afternoon I was getting dressed for a party but didn't want to wear expensive jewelry. I opened up my craft drawer and pulled out some beads and strung them. I didn't have time to put on a clasp, so I tied them with a bow. Everyone I saw that day complimented me on my necklace.
I then decided that it would be fun to make necklaces as gifts for family and friends.
Each necklace is a one of a kind and can be dressed up or dressed down.
I look forward to hearing about the compliments you get when you wear a necklace I made :)
My daughter has now created several polymer clay pieces that I am using to make pendants and earrings, and other jewelry pieces.
Daughter (Ruby): My mother can take anything....a rag, a box, a stone, a plant, you name it....and turn it into beautiful art. She doesn't waste time having doubts or being scared to make things...she just DOES it. I grew up seeing her turn a regular old table into a gorgeous mosaic made of beans, she hung her handmade clay fish on the wall in her bedroom, she took some plastic strips and hung wine glasses from our kitchen ceiling, which turned out to be a conversation piece among many.
I was always awed by these crafty arty things my mom did, and it definitely rubbed off on me. I always excelled in art throughout grade school, minored in art in college, and received a graduate degree in fine arts. I love making things, and I like to try new mediums. For me, polymer clay is a new medium. In all my years of schooling, I never studied clay! How did that happen? I don't know. But recently Polymer Clay was calling me, and as I encouraged my mom to try Etsy, I realized I could make pendants for her to work with. And here I am!
