Kim Testone is a former art magazine editor, writer and theme park caricature artist. Her paintings focus on ordinary objects, with a bit of a quirky and sentimental twist. She paints subjects that celebrate imagination and entertainment, from nostalgic toys and games to colorful desserts to trompe l'oeil pieces that aim to fool the viewer's perceptions.

"My hope is to capture a little bit of unexpected joy in everyday subjects and surprise the viewer. If my work can elicit a smile or help someone recapture a warm memory, that's a pretty good day."

Kim holds a Bachelor's Degree in Drawing from the University of Central Florida, and a Master's Degree in Arts Administration from Savannah College of Art and Design. She resides in Upstate New York, with her husband and their three cats. She enjoys old science fiction television, board games, comic books, vintage toys and playing her antique piano.

About

Do What You Love

Although I went to school for art many years ago, I never seemed to make much time for painting. Before I knew it, 15 years had passed, and although I was blessed to have had an opportunity to work in the arts and interview many of the country's best painters, I wanted more than anything just to have some time to paint myself.

I began building a library of instructional books in 2012 and watched hundreds of YouTube videos of other artists painting. I have spent the last few years practicing and studying painting approaches, and feel like I've finally begun to develop my own aesthetic and technique. Now, I paint because it brings me a sense of peace and purpose. I like that every day is a little different, and that I learn with each piece. I have no regrets about not coming to painting sooner because my passion and point of view would have been different. Instead, I think I've refined my voice over the years and now have something of value to create. But most of all, I just love to do it.

No matter what you love to do, you must find a way to make the time for it. Life is too short to just survive the daily grind.

Thank you for visiting! I hope you enjoy my work!

Thank you for visiting my shop! As a contemporary still life painter, I paint an array of everyday objects, working both from life and from photos, often simultaneously for one piece. I generally paint quirky or sentimental objects juxtaposed with each other to create truly unique and fun works of art. I try to make paintings that make people smile! All of my paintings are created with a great deal of care using the highest quality materials available.
