Once witnesses to occasions such as tea ceremonies, weddings and sometimes even earthquakes; it is You who are now contributing to the story of each kimono as a viewer or buyer.

About

SOME THINGS ARE TIMELESS. WE ARE JUST EPISODES.

Kimono Lamps are lampshades handmade in Ireland with Japanese vintage kimono fabrics.

Yes, they were worn by someone in Japan and witnessed many special occasions (ie. tea ceremionies, earthquakes, weddings) that person wore it to before incarnating as lampshades in Ireland 3 decades later.
How old were you 30 years ago?
I was 3. I loved drawing on the walls at the time and later graduated with a degree in product design.

Recently featured in The Sunday Times, Kimono Lamps were inspired by my trip to Japan in 2008.

The traditional seemed to blend seamlessly with the contemporary and ultra modern there.
I saw people using the fast Tokyo tube in their kimonos and other traditional garments.

While working on the lampshades I listen to Lyric.fm and drink buckets of tea.

Working with kimonos feels like I'm holding a piece of art - sophisticated and exotic as is the culture it comes from. So utterly foreign to my own background and the landscape outside! A shooting star from an outer space almost.

I wonder about the occasion they were ordered for, the year and of course – the wearers.

Some things are timeless. We are just episodes

Hi,
Kimono Lamps are lampshades handmade in Ireland out of authentic Japanese vintage kimono fabrics. It means the lampshades you're looking at were actually worn by someone in Japan for their special occasions between 1970-80s.

No two lampshades are alike even if in rare occasions there are more than one made out of the same kimono.

Some things are timeless. We are just episodes.

Returns and exchanges
Dear Customer,

Please make informed purchase.

If you are not happy with the lampshade or have a change of heart I will accept it back (the lampshade, not the heart) within 1 week of purchase with full refund or exchange only if it comes back in its original box; undamaged and usable.

I regret that the cost of shipping is buyer's responsibility as the shipping charges are NOT refundable.
Payment
You can pay with PayPal even if you don't have a PayPal account.

Payments by Bank Transfer are also accepted as long as you have an Irish bank account. Please refer to your bank for details regarding charges for international money transfer if you live and hold and account outside of Ireland.

Please note that buyers are responsible for any and all duties and customs charges that may be incurred.
Shipping
All items are shipped with Registered Irish Post (online tracking available) and usually take 1-2 weeks to arrive to international destinations.

I usually ship within 2 days of purchase (not when on holiday; see above) if cleared payment is received. If no payment is received I wait for it to arrive and ship the package next working day.

Each lampshade is placed in a bubble bag and shipped in a cardboard box so it gets to you in perfect condition.
Additional policies and FAQs
Kimono lampshades are not suitable for pendant fittings unless clearly stated.

The quality of the fabric used is provided in description and images. I only use very good or good quality vintage kimonos.

If in doubt please send a line and I'll happily answer in a timely manner.

If you are an interior decorator or simply have a particular colour scheme in mind please contact me to arrange a custom order of bespoke lampshade especially for you.

Wholesale inquiries welcome.
