I feel I've been blessed with a gift of creativity.
Hi, I am Jeannine, and the litle girl you see in my pictures is my daughter Olivia. Together we have started a business called Kinder Kouture. Kinder means children in german, and couture is a well sewn garment. That is exactly what our little company is all about. Growing up in Germany, I have learned to appreciate quality rather then quantity, as well as elegant detailing and timeless style. Our clothing line is meant to last and be seen for a lifetime.
Kinder Kouture is a dream come true for me. I have always wanted to stay at home and raise my children, and yet we all know what a difficult decision that can be. Not only am I working out of my home, but I get to do what I love to do and that is sew children's clothing. I spent many years teaching myself to sew, attending classes, studying the techniques of japanesse tailoring, just because I was not satisfied with the quality or materials being used in the items I was buying. This was especially true of the children's clothing. During my yearly visits home, I would buy a ton of clothing for the kids because I could not find what I wanted in the US. I finally started sewing everything for the kids....even their underwear. I like fun vibrant colors on children. I love classic detailing, and beautiful fabrics. Kinder Kouture was the perfect match for me, and it has been a fun ride.
Last year, we decided to take our label to a new level. We emptied out the garage, had lighting installed, and in no time had a studio set up. I work during the day when the kids are in school, and again at night when my husband comes home. I don't get to spend too many weekends with the family, but it is a price that we are all willing to pay. The whole family pitches in to help. My husband takes on the "mommy role" when he is home, and cooks, runs to the post office, and even buys some of my supplies. My son helps in the house, and my daughter models. Kinder Kouture is a family business in every sense of the way.
I also wanted to mention how much I love to take pictures . While my husband spent two years in Afghanistan, I took the time in the evenings, and taught myself how to use my DSLR camera. Online photography courses were also a part of my life. Photography has taught me so much about lighting and coloring. I often use the lessons learned in my sewing when I have to choose fabrics, trim and other details. My love for photography is another very important creative aspect that I enjoy on a daily basis, which I document in my blog almost every night.
I am a quiet, creative person with many passions. I love to cook, knit and redecorate my house. I love to read...watch old movies.....and listen to classical music while I sew. I love my once-a-week Starbucks Chai, and my friends. I am a computer geek of sorts, and always buy myself flowers because they are pretty. I am a romantic, and very german at the same time. I am determined to find the "good" in almost everyone I meet, and I work too much. I love to travel, and have fond memories of all the countries I have visited. Most importantly, I love beautiful things, and the fact that I get to create such beautiful clothing puts a big smile on my face each and every day.
So please, take a look and join our family, while I introduce you to the cutest little clothes.
