Back Where We Belong
KINE grew from a lifelong love of wild places, old stories and creatures with a bit of character.
I grew up in Devon, where the landscape has always felt a little bit magical. The wild moors, ancient woods, hedgerows and weather-beaten coastlines were the backdrop to my childhood, and I’ve always been drawn to the folklore woven through them; old tales, strange creatures, local legends and the feeling that there might be more hiding just beyond the path.
And then there are the cows. I’ve always had a soft spot for them: their curious faces, their gentle oddness and their place in the landscape. They’ve become a recurring character in my work over the years.
I eventually left Devon and moved to Switzerland, where I started a little modern folk art brand, "The Kindest", inspired by my new surroundings. What began as a small creative project grew into a successful business, with my designs finding their way into independent shops and mountain towns across Switzerland. I made Swiss-inspired souvenirs, gifts and artwork, taking traditional folk influences and giving them a more modern, playful twist.
Switzerland became another home, and gave me some wonderful years of adventures, mountains and inspiration. But after all those years away, I found myself being pulled back towards the place where it all started. So, I came home.
KINE is the next chapter.
The name comes from an old word for cow or cattle, keeping a little thread of my work alive while giving me the freedom to explore something new.
Here you’ll find modern folk art inspired by wild places, folklore, curious creatures and the slightly strange magic of the natural world. Cows, woodland creatures, old tales, moorland wanderings and things that may or may not exist beyond the edge of the woods.
Everything is designed and created by me, with a love of the old, the odd and the beautifully imperfect.
Modern folk art for people who feel most at home in the wild.
