Built to Make Jewelry

Each of us is uniquely created with different giftings and talents. When we find out what we are 'built for', we get the 'zing' in our blood. The rough places don't stop us; we will find a way through, and in the meantime, learn a lot in the process. It is worth all the sweat and effort!

This is what happened and is happening in my life. I absolutely love this life of high adventure! From the time as a young girl, being creative and making things was the most fun for me. It has always been hard to follow directions... Does that ring a bell with anyone?? Sometimes, I feel like a doink! But that is the brain I have and sometimes you just have to laugh! Using what you find around, and making something that has a purpose...what is it for?

The first breakthrough for me, was at the university, where I was studying to be a teacher. One of my instructors thought I might have talent and wrote a note, so I could take a jewelry class...sleepless nights just thinking of all the things I could make...learning to solder, using the hammers and figuring out jewelry pieces. Constructing jewelry was what I enjoyed the most, rather than lost wax.

The next breakthrough was when my aunt connected me with my jewelry teacher, Lillian. I had graduated, but was not interested in teaching and ended up living at a resort, skiing, waiting on tables and making earrings to sell at the leather shop. It had gotten too cold, so I was on my way to live in Hawaii. During the interim, Lillian showed me how to use chasing tools. They date back to the 3rd century BC, and enable me to design, as I do ....set of small iron rods with straight or half rounds on the hold the tool with your left hand and hammer with the right, after drawing the design on the metal with a pencil first. The repousse and reverse repousse comes next with dapping tools. This all takes longer, but allows designs that are virtually impossible any other way.

Of course, my story is longer, with lots of turns...I found out in Hawaii that I did not have the skill I needed to fill a silver showcase of jewelry and start my own business. This was not a high time for me, but we also learn from failure....I ended up moving back home, but Lillian took me under her wing and we had glorious times making gorgeous jewelry together! What a gift she was! My collection grew, friends bought, special pieces were ordered.

Then life came to some sharp turns and ended in a major crash! I was working at a restaurant and got fired for missing work....was making jewelry....yikes. Someone told me the jewelry buyer of a large up-scale store liked to buy from local artists. There were three stores and she bought my entire collection, for selling in each one. For me it looked like a take off.... free like a bird, traveling the world, selling my wares...but the impetus didn't last long, and a personal relationship resulted in a near death spiral. Who could pick up the pieces??

This is when I met someone, taking me totally by surprise, who asked me if I was interested in spiritual things...oh, yeah!! For I had been way 'out there'! I had never before heard the way she presented Jesus to me. Growing up, I had been to Sunday School...but the concept of needing to repent and turn to Him, that He had paid for my sins, that I could be forgiven. This I had never done. He was just out 'there' for those in 'that square'... not for me....But this was deep down and personal! That was the day, I experienced the peace I was looking for all along, but didn't know how to get it. I had been captive in my own box. And what a miracle that all my sins, the horrible things I had done, could be wiped out, forgiven by the blood Jesus shed. I knew I didn't deserve it...

So this is why I make King Lives carry the message, because I said, "Why didn't someone tell me this before?" And there is much more to the story....I have lived in Denmark for nine years, learning to make Viking style pieces while there, traveling to many countries in the world, most amazing is Israel, where God put His name! And the first believers were all Jewish, then the Gentiles were also brought in...One God, Creator of the Universe, One Messiah, Yeshua, Jesus our family in Him.

And I did end up teaching ...ESL and specializing in tutoring Dyslexics....As I started, so to the finish! I love this life God has given me, using the giftings he planted inside of me. My workshop is definitely the most 'zing', where the hammering and creating is happening with the Master Creator....It's what He built me for...making jewelry for the King!

Our goal is simple: to provide the best products and service to our customers at the lowest prices possible. We take great pride in our company, our commitment to customer service and in the products we create. Our online store is designed to provide you with a safe and secure environment to browse our product catalog.

The primary method of design utilizes a repoussé and chasing technique, which dates back to the3rd century BC. Although it takes some time, unique pieces can be made, virtually impossible using any other method. Danish heritage influences the design of select pieces, of this artist, incorporating Viking style. The artist’s love for the Hebraic Roots of her faith is interwoven throughout each collection. We hope you enjoy using your unique piece, as a personal message. May your collection grow for The Kingdom.

All KLJ pieces are oxidized, then polished to enhance the depth of the design. This leaves an antiqued finish, rather than bright shine and lowered areas may look darkened.
