Announcement    We hope you are safe and healthy, and we appreciate your visit to our online store. A FEW IMPORTANT NOTES...

NOTE: please forgive the watermarks on our product photos. Nefarious overseas companies have been stealing our photos and other content and bootlegging our products. If you would like a photo with no watermark, please contact us in a message. Thank you!

GIFTS. If you mark your purchase as a gift, please double-check the shipping address and make sure you're sending it to the recipient (assuming that's your intention), not yourself.

DIGITAL FILES: No, we do not sell digital files of our designs. Our business model is built around selling finished products, and we will not create competition for ourselves.

SHIPPING: We are committed to getting your order shipped within the timeframe shown on the listing, and we take pride in getting most orders shipped out more quickly than that. We package everything carefully. However, once we drop your package at the post office, it is out of our control. If you are unhappy with the speed of shipping, please contact us directly before leaving a negative review. Even though shipping speed is completely out of our control, we would be happy to discuss the issue and work with you to be sure you’re satisfied. Thank you!

About Kismet Craft Studio

Kismet Craft Studio is on a mission: to provide the perfect gift for everyone on your list... especially people who are hard to shop for! We specialize in unique laser-cut wood holiday ornaments and fun, lightweight acrylic jewelry. Everything we create is designed to celebrate the things your family and friends are passionate about -- hobbies, sports, professions, music, fandoms, and more.

Kismet Craft Studio was created by Barbara and Charlie Smith of Decatur, GA. Here's a little more about us and how our craft business got its start.

We both grew up in a small town in western New York's "Snow Belt." I (Barbara) moved to the Georgia coast at 16, while Charlie moved with his family to Florida around the same time. I got a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Atlanta College of Art, while Charlie enlisted in the Navy, where he served for 22 years and retired as a Chief Petty Officer after serving on several ships in the Atlantic and Mediterranean during the Gulf War, as well as serving as a recruiter and several other roles.

We connected in 2006 and found much more in common than our shared background in the beautiful rolling hills of western New York. In 2008, we got married and settled in Decatur, Georgia. In 2015, Charlie bought an inexpensive laser cutter. A year later, we needed Christmas gifts for my family and decided to put the laser cutter to use in making them. I designed our first few snowflakes as gifts for my mom, dad, stepmom, and stepdad. My dad and stepmom liked their gifts so much that they immediately placed an order for more to share with other family members the following Christmas.

In the fall of 2017, we encountered some pretty dire financial trouble. The small marketing consulting company I'd been working for was no longer able to pay my full salary, and finding a new job was a challenge. Meanwhile, Charlie had developed a disabling neurological problem (possibly related to work he did in the Navy) that caused frequent, long-lasting migraine symptoms. We decided to design some more snowflake ornaments and launch Kismet Craft Studio. When our first order came in and Charlie went to go produce it, the laser cutter would not power on. Fortunately, we had completed the order for my dad and stepmom, and their check was for almost the exact amount we needed to replace it. We got the new laser cutter, sent out that first order, and... the rest is history. Since then, we've completed almost 600 orders on Etsy, and expanded our presence into local craft shows and retail stores.

Nothing brings us more joy than knowing someone has chosen to share one of our products with a friend or family member as a gift. We welcome suggestions, requests, and custom orders for wood, slate, stone, and other materials.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

Custom orders are always welcome. Requests and suggestions are also welcome -- they often result in some of our best-selling products! If your request or suggestion is something we think we can sell, we may not charge extra for the design time. However, if you request/suggestion is outside the aesthetic of our work, we may decline to take it on. For example, snowflakes made from human figures don't work, and some hobbies/interests just don't lend themselves to our snowflake design approach.

Are your snowflake ornaments fragile?

Our snowflake ornaments are made of 3mm Baltic birch plywood. Because the designs are intricate, many of them are slightly fragile -- be careful how you pick them up, and don't drop them, because thin areas can break. We don't recommend allowing children to handle them. Treat them like you would your other treasured holiday decorations.

What do you use to make your snowflake ornaments?

Our snowflake ornaments are designed in Adobe Illustrator and cut out of 3mm Baltic birch plywood using a tabletop laser cutter. Each ornaments takes 15-45 minutes to cut out, depending on its complexity.

What happens when I mark an order as a gift?

Marking an order as a gift mainly means that the packing slip generated by Etsy (which we print, fold, and include with your items) does not have the price on it AND includes a gift message. We also typically (time permitting) wrap gift orders in tissue paper and tie with paper raffia ribbon. When you send a gift order, be sure that the shipping address is the person to whom you intend to send the gift. If you don't edit this information, it will likely be shipped to you and you'll need to ship it to your recipient!
