How I Connect To Myself and the World

I try to carve out as much time as possible to spend on creating. Since moving to the Pacific Northwest in 2017 it’s been an exciting time adjusting to my new home. Not all of it has been easy, but setting up my studio in the garage has allowed me to continue to create in clay! Regardless of whatever’s going on in the world, whenever I spend some time in the studio it’s never time wasted.

I was able to set up a studio at home back in 2009 when I was gifted a kiln of my own by my #1 fan & supporter, my mom. Since then I have been working on honing my throwing & hand-building skills and trying to learn more about the whole magic that is ceramics.

I learned the basics of wheel throwing, clay bodies, glazes and typical pottery studio tasks in 1994 as the studio tech at college. Since then I've always sought out studios to work in wherever I was, including teaching at an art school in southern China where I was able to use their campus studio in my free time.

It’s not something that’s easy to do everywhere. (I had my wheel set up in the kitchen of my Brooklyn apartment for a while and schlepped the fragile, unfired work to a studio across town for it to be fired for a fee.) But one of the great things about pottery is that just about every culture around the world has some connection to clay, and seeing that the similarities are really greater than the differences, it’s a good reminder about our connection to each other in general, we’re all more similar than we are different at the end of the day.

    Owner, Creator, Designer

I was introduced to pottery by accident, which is one of the reasons I decided to name my shop "Kismet Pottery". Although it wasn't something I could plan, it's turned out to be a constant source of inspiration and rejuvenation.
