I love making functional pottery that brings something special to daily routines. All of my pieces are either thrown on the wheel or hand built by me in my studio. I use stoneware or porcelain clay and everything is fired in my electric kiln to either a cone 5 or cone 6, which makes it durable.

I use commercial, non-toxic & food safe glazes, which means that I don't mix the glazes from raw chemicals. It's a fascinating & important process, but I just don't have the proper space to do it in at the moment. Maybe one day!

Other than that, I do it all myself so if you're looking for a custom made piece, please keep that in mind as it takes between 4 - 6 weeks for me to typically complete custom work. I do keep in touch and let my customers know what stage their pieces is at along the way.

I hope you find something you like and thanks for visiting!

About

My Havenly Corner

Literally located in a corner of our finished basement which also functions as the gym (i.e. treadmill) and laundry center, my home-based work space is not quite big enough to be a studio, but it's where the world disappears for the hours while I'm there.

Thanks to a Christmas gift by family a few years ago of a kiln, I was able to set up a studio at home. Since then I have been working on honing my throwing & hand-building skills and my knowledge of glazes and the whole magic that is ceramics.

I learned how to do the basics in 1994 as the studio tech at my college. Since then I've always sought out studios to work in wherever I was, including teaching at an art school in southern China where I was able to use their campus studio for free, but had to pay for my pieces after they were fired.

I try to fit in as much time as possible each week. That could be 10 hours, or 25. It's not always easy, but I always feel better after I've made the world go away even for a little while!

I was introduced to pottery by accident, which is one of the reasons I decided to name my shop "Kismet Pottery". Although it wasn't something I could plan, it's turned out to be a constant source of inspiration and rejuvenation.
