Are you tired of neutral decorating themes? Looking to add a little color to your life?

This shop specializes only in affordable ORIGINAL paintings. These bright paintings will add a pop of color to almost any room no matter what your décor. Although I live in a 150 year old farm house, these works of art will fit both country and farmhouse styles, but are equally at home in modern and city dwellings.

My style is Contemporary Impressionism. This means that I paint in the same style as the celebrated impressionists – Monet, Pissaro, Sargent, Cassatt, Payne, Redfield – but with my own twist. My paintings celebrate everyday life with color, light, and fluent brush strokes. They are more realism but leave plenty for the viewer’s eye to complete.

Each painting is original and unique. Subject matter is often repeated but no two paintings are exactly alike.

I continuously add new subjects. Current categories include:
• Landscapes
• Flowers and gardens
• Still lifes
• Figurative, often with a story
• Cityscapes
• Churches and interesting buildings
• Travels – basically postcards from everywhere

I take great pride in the quality of materials of my artwork. Each painting is designed to last for decades if not longer.
• All professional-grade paint
• Museum-grade canvas, canvas boards and boards
• 100% cotton rag paper if watercolor.

Many of the paintings are standard sizes so they will be easy to frame. Frames shown on here are for display only and are not included with the paintings.

If you don’t see your favorite subject, please convo me. It may be on my agenda but I just haven’t got around to it.

I welcome any other questions about my artwork. I’ve been painting for over 30 years.

About

Contemporary impressionism and more!

Hello and welcome to my Etsy shop.

KitMiracleArt focuses on my general art. My style is a cross between realism and impressionism. I generally paint in oils and watercolors but occasionally will work in acrylics. Most of my major work is based upon many hours of drawings in both pencil and charcoal. As with many artists, I am fond of painting what I know…and there is plenty of subject matter in this beautiful area. Family members and friends often end up in my paintings. I have a whole cupboard of objects in the back of my studio which are used in my still life paintings, with the addition of flowers, fruits and vegetables from right here on the farm. My landscape paintings often feature area views but I love to paint on location during my travels. And I’m a passionate plein air painter, trying to get out of the studio at least once a week.

Generally, I look for a story or theme in each painting, particularly the figurative ones. What is this person doing? Why are they doing it? Who are they? What is the rest of the story? The viewer should become part of the story and needs to bring his/her imagination.

I also paint a line of fruit, vegetable and flower paintings which may be viewed on my other Etsy shop, My90Acres.

Over thirty years ago, my husband and I decided to leave the corporate world and purchased a small farm in Southern Indiana. This was always a dream of mine so he mostly came along for the ride. If you are not familiar with this part of the country, it is totally beautiful with woods and fields, gently rolling hills, lakes and streams. And not too many people. I like to say it’s like New England without the crowds.
We live in a 150 year old farm house with a large garden, a couple of orchards, and plenty of the aforementioned woods and fields and streams. We raised two sons here and have enjoyed living in a county that doesn’t even have one stoplight…and we’re proud of it.

My studio is the old summer kitchen so my commute is about 30 feet from the back door. For those of you who are not familiar with this term, summer kitchens were popular in the days of wood-fired stoves to keep the heat out of the house…in the summer! They are very common on old homesteads in the Midwest and south. And it’s very nice for me to have an area to keep my art separate both physically and mentally from the rest of the house.

After seventeen years, I recently left my position where I’d spent the past ten years as director of Jasper Community Arts, a performing and fine arts center.

So, the nuts and bolts of my bio are:
• Taught school in Appalachia right after college
• Worked in the corporate world (Ford Motor Company) for eleven years
• Full-time artist a bunch of years
• Gallery coordinator and then Director of fine arts center

Education:
• Graduate of Earlham College, Richmond IN
• Attended Paint Creek Center for the Arts, Rochester MI
• Post-graduate work at Oakland University, Rochester MI
• Various other courses as piqued my interest at Indiana University Southeast and Vincennes University, Jasper Campus

Memberships:
• Signature member, Watercolor Society of Indiana
• Associate member, Oil Painters of America
• Associate member, Hoosier Salon
• Indiana Plein Air Painters
• Brown County Art Guild

Exhibits:
I’ve exhibited my work at shows all over the country. Some notable galleries are the Salmagundi Club in NYC and the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC. To see a full list, check my primary website at www.kgmiracle.com

Frequently asked questions
What is your shipping policy?

I aim to ship all orders by the next business day after the paid order is received. Smaller works are mailed in my well-known shiny pink padded envelopes. Larger paintings are boxed. Most works will be shipped USPS and the buyer will receive a shipping tracking number. Large paintings will be boxed and shipped UPS.

The only exception to next business day shipping is if the painting is still wet as it takes oil paints some time to dry. I also like to varnish them for protection before I ship them. If there will be a delay, I will notify the buyer.

Shipping fees and received by time are determined by the services the buyer has selected. International customers are responsible for any customs and import fees.

What does “museum grade” mean? You use that term a lot when describing your work.

I only use the best paints and other materials. Museum grade means that it should meet museum standards and is archivally safe.

What kinds of paints do you use?

For watercolor paints, I only use Winsor Newton which is a British paint maker and has been around since 1832. I use the colors which are light-fast, that is, they won’t fade easily. When creating a watercolor / pen and ink combination, I use India or carbon ink which won’t fade.

For oil paints, I favor Winsor Newton, Lukas and Richeson.

I normally use Golden Acrylics.

What kinds of surfaces do you paint on for watercolor?

Watercolors are always painted on 100% cotton rag paper. I like d’Arches but use many other varieties. Cotton rag paper is ph neutral and doesn’t yellow or get brittle like wood pulp paper. If properly cared for (framed under glass and kept out of direct sunlight), this paper should last for centuries.

What surfaces do you use for oils and acrylics?

Stretched canvases are used for oils and acrylics. The canvas is usually cotton or linen fabric which is stretched over wooden stretcher bars of various sizes. The canvas then receives a coat of gesso or acrylic primer. These are good for oils and acrylics.

Canvas panels are also used for oils and acrylics. Although I buy pre-made canvas panels, they can be handmade by adhering canvas to wood or Masonite panels. These have an advantage in that they are rigid, easy to mail and easy to frame.

Wood panels are another support that I use. Cut from ash or luan, they are gessoed, sanded, and gessoed again. Wood was one of the first supports ever used for paintings and have been around for centuries.

Are the paintings framed?

No, the paintings are not framed. There are so many choices for frames that I think it is best to leave the choice up to you, the buyer. Most of the paintings, especially the smaller ones, are standard sizes and can easily and affordably be framed at your local craft store or frame shop. I recommend custom framing for larger paintings.

Watercolors should always be matted and framed under glass. The matting prevents the artwork from touching the glass and possibly being damaged.

Can I request a custom painting?

I am always open to creating custom artwork. Please convo me about your ideas and we’ll discuss them.
