Keeping it kitsch ...
Yorkshire born and bred and a landlocked mermaid at heart, I made my way down to the pebbled beach of Brighton after University, where I've been ever since.
I started up Kitsch Fish after a lifetime of being obsessed with mermaids, and what feels like a lifetime of collecting (hoarding) kitsch vintage ornaments. The UK sadly doesn't have a vast amount of original 50s/60s nautical chalkware wall plaques unlike the US, from makers such as Lefton, Norcrest and Freeman McFarlin, so as a personal project I landed upon some vintage moulds to make some mermaids for myself. I enjoyed it so much that I thought I would give it a whirl making reproductions and see if anyone else would be interested. The response has been so lovely that I decided to carry on, and it's become much more than a hobby!
I spend hours carefully hand pouring, sanding, priming and painting each wall plaque. Attention to detail and much love goes in to creating each item in my store.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my story so far, it would be wonderful if you'd like to follow me on Instagram to see my updates and new pieces, link below!
