About

Born collector and lover of all things old and interesting

I began collecting as soon as I could walk...
It started with pretty rocks (what kid doesn't like those?) and toads & salamanders, but quickly graduated to penny machine prizes (remember rat-finks?), trolls and comic books.

I've always loved old things, old stories, family history (my husband calls it 'ancestor worship') and the link that vintage and antique things have to the past. I bought my first old book when I was a freshman in high school -- a 1905 'Complete Works of Shakespeare' gift edition with tissue-thin pages -- at Acres of Books in Cincinnati, Ohio. It cost $1.25 and was decorated with gold filigree...just that one book and I was hooked! Soon I had two bookcases full of 1800s and early 1900s gift editions and children's illustrators -- my favorite is Arthur Rackham (though he's hard to find these days).

As an adult I've been an insurance underwriter, a stay-at-home mom, a church lady (church secretary) and a webmaster. Once the kids were grown and monetary demands less, it was only a matter of time until I turned my passion into a business.

I love to go to flea markets, estate sales, thrift shops and the occasional curb-side. I'm not above dumpster-diving and should have a bumper sticker that reads 'I Brake for Other People's Trash'! Often the cast-off and forgotten hides a nugget of wonderful-ness that just needs to be found.

My items have been purchased by artists, designers, movie and tv studios and museums. My favorite part of the process, though, is seeing someone else's delight at finding the perfect item -- then I feel just like the matchmaker who gets an invitation to the wedding.

This is just more fun than anyone should be allowed to have!

Shipping
I ship one to three business days after payment (Monday-Friday) by USPS (and by FedEx for larger items)

USA SHIPPING:
Shipping is calculated, based on the size and weight of the package and your zip code. Any significant overage (usually only in the case of combined shipping) will be refunded back to you. If your actual shipping comes to more than the estimate, you only pay the original amount.

LOCAL PICKUP:
I offer pickup at a public place within 10 miles of my location. Please convo me if you're local and would like to save shipping costs.

CUSTOMS AND VAT:
Buyers are responsible for any customs and import taxes that may apply. I'm not responsible for delays in delivery due to customs.

PACKAGING:
I like to be green, but also value quality. I reuse boxes for shipping (that's the green part) but try to use all new packing materials inside (that's the quality). Many states are banning styrofoam peanuts, so I avoid using them whenever possible, but always opt for the cushioning that will best help your item arrive undamaged.

JUST CONVO ME:
If you have any questions about the shipping cost or materials for an item you're considering, just convo me and I'll be happy to answer your questions.
Additional policies and FAQs
I'm happy to reserve an item for you! My standard policy is to reserve for three days and, if unpurchased, take it off reserve at the end of that time. If you need it reserved for a longer period, please convo me -- I'll be happy to work it out for you!

If you'd like to see if I have an item you're seeking or want me to watch for it, please get in touch with me. I love the thrill of the hunt and often can find a specific item for you!

Frequently asked questions

Gift wrapping and packaging

Who doesn't love to get a wrapped present in the mail? I'll be happy to gift-wrap your item and include a personal note if you're having it sent directly to someone as a gift. Just let me know when you check out.

International shipping

I'm always happy to ship internationally, though sometimes the cost is higher than the price of the item (especially in the case of heavy items)! If your country isn't listed in an item's shipping information, please convo me to get a shipping cost. There are several countries to which shipments can't be insured. If that's the case, shipping there might not be possible.

Holding items - Reserve

Do you see something you love, but don't have the $$ for a day or two? I'll be happy to reserve anything in the shop for you for up to 3 days. Just send me a convo and let me know. An item unpurchased after 3 days just goes off reserve. If you need something reserved longer, we'll work it out.

Care instructions

VINTAGE PENNANTS may arrive wrinkled from storage or shipping. They can be pressed on the wrong side (I always use a pressing cloth) to get out the wrinkles. It's also not a good idea to hang them in direct sunlight, as they'll fade.

Most vintage POTTERY and GLASS pieces should be hand-washed rather than put in the dishwasher.

It's a good policy to never immerse a VINTAGE FIGURINE or wash it too vigorously, as the cold painted features (those not under glaze) wash off very easily.

Local Pickup

I offer pickup at a public place within 10 miles of my location. Please convo me if you're local and would like to save shipping costs.
