This is my third purchase from Kitty Kitty Crafts, and my second custom hippo order. The first custom hippo order was for my hippo-loving friend's first daughter. And this second hippo custom order is for this same friend's second daughter – which they just received in the mail, and they LOVE it!!!! Working with Karissa on a custom order is so fun, her passion for sewing and creating the perfect hand-made gift really shines through. I can't wait to order from Kitty Kitty Crafts again!

Softies and patchwork with a modern sensibility.

I learned to sew from my grandmother, my mom, and my home ec teacher—in that order. While I occasionally crafted bags or sock monkeys in high school and college, it wasn't until my 23rd birthday, when my mom bought me my own machine, that I was hooked. After making curtains for the entire apartment, I moved on to bags and skirts for me. Then I learned patchwork and quilting and became even more obsessed.

Now, two sewing machine upgrades later, I'm still stitching away on a variety of projects. I use my weekends to work on my machine (which I've named Gloria), and weeknights to clip, turn, stuff, and finish all my plush projects. I'm often found on the couch watching a Law & Order marathon and with a cocktail nearby, a cat on my lap, and threads or stuffing on everything. My writer husband tolerates this very sweetly.

When I'm not sewing for my shop, I'm working on handmade gifts for friends, friends' new babies, or sewing up a wardrobe of my own. Hand stitching is my most favorite thing to do.

I make time to play, too! My husband and I go to the movies almost every weekend, eat out when we can, and enjoy many many many craft beers at home. I use my commute to read 20+ books a year, and take 30-minutes stitch breaks at my office job whenever I can.

So, why is my shop called "Kitty Kitty Crafts"? When I first started my blog in 2008, I didn't know what to call it. My initials are KK, and my husband and I had two cats at that time, so Kitty Kitty Crafts just fit. We now only have one kitty, Iris, but she's cute and spunky enough to count as two!

All of my products are made by my own two hands and are my original designs. I choose my materials carefully and only use high-quality cotton fabrics. I craft in small batches, so no two items are exactly alike. Awesome, right? Chances that I still have enough fabric on hand to make a new softie just like a sold softie are very very slim, so if you see a pattern you like, snap it up! I typically only buy enough fabric to make 2-3 softies from any given print.

SOFTIE SAFETY: I consider my softies to be soft sculptures, not toys. While I take pride in my craftsmanship and believe my work will withstand normal wear and tear, my softies are not intended for children under 12. I am happy to swap out button eyes for felt or embroidered ones at no additional charge if you prefer.

ALLERGIES: I craft in a small apartment that is smoke-free but cat-friendly--I *am* Kitty Kitty Crafts, after all! I do my best to keep my cat from "helping" me too much, but if you're extremely sensitive to pet dander, please keep this in mind. All of my work is washable, and I'm happy to give your purchase a quick launder before shipping if you'd like--please just let me know!

Additional policies and FAQs
CARE: Yes, it's washable! Softie fabric has been washed prior to use. If your softie needs a cleaning, please wash gently and air dry.

Scarves are washed once completed to give them that soft, crinkly look. They may be machine-washed on warm / permanent press and tumbled dry on medium heat. Please note that some minimal additional shrinkage may occur due to the nature of 100% cotton materials, but that's why we love quilting, right? NOTE: If your scarf has a dark or red backing, the color may bleed in the wash. I recommend tossing in a Shout Color Catcher just to be safe!

CUSTOM WORK: Let's talk! Have fabric you'd like me to use? Want some personalized embroidery added? Have another idea? Please contact me to discuss! I require full payment before creating any custom work. Because it's made to order, please allow 2-3 weeks for your item to ship. Custom items are non-refundable.

MAILING LIST: If you'd like to receive my occasional info about upcoming shows, send me an email at kittykittycrafts [!at] gmail [dot] com

WHOLESALE & CONSIGNMENT: I am open to either one; please contact me if you're interested.
