OMG! This is the cutest bracelet ever! I feel just like Julie Andrews did, while dancing through the eldelweiss! Thank you so much!

I love this journal! so carefully made, and I love the hand torn pages - thanks for the personal note, too - I can't wait to fill it up :)

About

My Press

YOU HAVE A STORY

write it. sketch it. compose it. tell it.

Soft Spoken Press is a small independent book and paper press specializing in traditional binding methods and Western paper making techniques. Hand crafted books designed to inspire are made using high quality archival materials with a thoughtfulness to nature and sustainability. Artisan papers are made from 100% recycled cotton serving as a professional quality canvas for all sorts of mediums.

Soft Spoken Press exists to promote positivity and to encourage self-expression through the act of creating inside the intimate portable place that is the book, so that we may find the answers to our own questions by the use of our own hands. With a variety of styles and sizes available, from blank book journals to artist sketchbooks, there is something for every bibliophile.

I stem from a family of writers, painters, seamstresses, soap makers, and photographers. I believe that it is by no accident, only divine intervention that I delight in the process of creating as well. My craving for meaningful conversation, quiet settings, and authenticity have inspired the work He has guided me to craft.

Soft Spoken Press was born from my innate preference for a quieter approach to expression, communication, and a life of pondering, prayer, and genuine reflection. An approach I have not always embraced, but rather under valued. It was through an exploration in creative writing that I found peace and an acceptance of who God created me to be. I had found a safe place to connect with my thoughts, ideas, and emotions. It allowed me to put my questions, frustrations, and excitements to paper and find answers between the lines. Writing had become my super power. It was a newfound responsibility and I had to decide what kind of impact I wanted my words to have. I knew they had to bring light.

While I was finding my voice in writing, I was also introduced to the craft of book binding as a Summer intern with Straw Hat Press. It was under the instruction of owners and fellow SCAD Alumni Laura Cleary and Shaun McCallum that I learned how to make an actual real life book. I had entered a whole new world I didn't know I belonged to. I reconnected with my long time love of paper, the tangible results I crave, and the sense of accomplishment at the end of the day that comes from making something useful with my hands. It was an invaluable experience.

Now, my hope is that through my passion for writing and book making I can create blank canvases for people of all kinds. A portable place where character creators, painters, public speakers, illustrators, music makers, note takers, recipe inventors, diary keepers, or day dreamers, can pour themselves into and discover the deepest, rawest, most intimate parts of who they are and come out with a more profound understanding of their creative potential and embrace how wonderfully made they are.
