Welcome to Knee Deep Originals! Creating art is my passion, something my soul needs, and all of the paintings you see here are original and one of a kind. I also offer high quality and professional prints of some of my paintings. Please view the feedback from my customers. I believe, after reading it, you will feel completely confident to purchase from me.

I use brushes and paint to create a variety of fine art paintings on canvas and paper and on upcycled housewares. Each piece is inspired by nature and the world around me: woodland breezes, bird songs, sunlit skies, mountains and trees. Created in a smoke-free studio in the middle of the North Carolina woods and foothills, my paintings and artwork share with you a vision of the place where I live as well as a little bit of my heart and soul.

I am happy to do commissioned work, custom designs, and pet or people portraits in oil, acrylic, or watercolor. Simply convo me to let me know what you have in mind and I will do my best to make that item very special, just for you!

Please note that many of my items benefit animal charities, either locally, nationally or internationally. Animal welfare is extremely important to me and very dear to my heart. I am a member of Etsy for Animals and donate each month to a charity that works for the good of wildlife (Project Coyote, Wildlife Center of Virginia, Skye's Spirit Wildlife, Red Wolf Coalition, International Wolf Center), or that offers sanctuary and care for farm animals or other animals (Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge, Full Moon Farm, Animal Place), or which works to improve the lives of and find foster homes for domesticated pets (The Whiskers Syndicate, Stokes County Humane Society, National Mill Dog Rescue).

About

Nature-Inspired Art ... handmade and original... from my heart and soul to your walls and home

THE STORY OF MY ART: Painting is a necessary part of my life, much like breathing. My work is inspired by the life I see around me, and that is the beautiful life of the woods, the sky, the mountains, and the people in my community. I aim to express that beauty and share it with others. When someone purchases my art, it's an uplifting moment for me because it means that I am sharing a bit of my soul and a piece of my world with someone else. For me, that is the essence of Etsy... it allows my art to travel across the continent or fly across the globe to be a part of someone else's life and home, and I hope that it brings a sense of joy to all those who see it. I believe each piece of art expresses its own spirit and soul ... and somehow it will find its way to the person for whom it speaks loudest... or whispers quietly.

THE STORY OF MY ART SPACE: I work out of a small single-person studio and shop located in the beautiful woods of Stokes County, NC... smoke-free, but definitely not pet-free as my dogs and cat often accompany me to the studio where paintings originate and are brought to life. In the summer when I look out my studio windows, I see our lush green garden growing fresh goodies while our flock of hens roam about. In the wintertime, when the colors have changed to gray and brown, I can see straight through the woods to the Saura Mountains stretching out across the horizon. It is like heaven, and I can easily lose track of time in my studio with a paintbrush in my hand. These are just some of the sights that inspire my work.

THE STORY OF MY SHOP NAME: When we left the city and moved to the rural countryside in 2004, I found myself with more time on my hands than I'd had before (my three kids were grown and out on their own), and I became a more serious and prolific painter. And hence the story of my business name. I quickly found myself "knee deep" in canvases, both completed and blank, scattered throughout the house. Fortunately it also led to the construction of my studio building. I like my business name because it makes people smile and they ask questions about it. It gets a conversation started about the process of art.

THE STORY OF YOU AND ME: I hope you will enjoy looking through my shop here on Etsy. Perhaps something will speak or whisper to you. Perhaps the art here will simply give you a moment of beauty, a chance to smile, a time to reflect. And that is okay too.

  • Rebecca Dresser

    Owner, Artist, Musician

I listen to the music in the world around me - in the songs of birds, in the rhythms of the seasons, in the voices of people and animals I love. These things influence the way I create art and music, and I find myself knee deep in their beauty.

  • Foster

    Faithful Companion

My name is Foster and one day I strayed into the arms of my most favorite person in the world. She lets me hang out in her studio while she paints, and I feel it is my duty to stay by her side at all times.

  • Cooper

    Resident Clown

My name is Cooper, and I followed the coolest man home one day and found my bit of heaven. I like to make everyone laugh with my antics; it is my job to help everyone feel good at all times. I've also served as a model for many paintings.

  • Abby Normal

    Queen

I am Abby, the oldest of the dogs who live here. I was adopted from the shelter and am now Queen of the Pack. I sleep a lot, but don't let that fool you... I am also the Early Warning System and will be the first to alert the others to intruders.

  • Scout

    Mouse Catcher

The only feline family member, Scout has many dog-like tendencies. She takes walks with us and is a wonderful companion in the studio. She keeps our mice and mole population from getting out of hand, and she keeps the dogs from getting too uppity.

Accepted payment methods

  • Money Order
Payment
I accept Paypal payments, credit cards via Etsy, as well as Money Orders.

PAYPAL AND DIRECT CHECKOUT
As a seller, I expect you to pay within 24 hours of purchasing an item. If you need more time, please contact me and I will be happy to work out arrangements with you.

MONEY ORDERS
Remember that money orders must arrive to me and be processed by my bank before I will ship. I don't mind taking your money order as long as you don't mind waiting.

SALES TAX
If you live in North Carolina, sales tax will be added to your purchase, according to state law.
Shipping
All of my artwork is carefully and lovingly packaged to keep it safe and secure while it is in the mail. Purchases over $50 include insurance. I use USPS as my shipping service. Each listing details the estimated time it will take for me to get your package ready and delivered to the Post Office. I always include a tracking number so that you and I can keep track of your package's location.
Refunds and Exchanges
I enjoy creating works of art, and it is my goal that you enjoy your purchase as much as I enjoyed creating it. However, I know that buying art online, without having seen it in person, can be a little overwhelming.

RETURNS & EXCHANGES
I will accept returns and exchanges if you have decided that the piece you purchased isn't quite right for you. Simply return it, at your expense, with the same care in packaging as I had given it, within seven days of purchase, for an exchange or refund, minus the original shipping charges. Once it has been received and seen in its original condition, your refund will be sent. Please note, however, if it has been damaged in any way and I can't relist it for sale, I will not be able to give a refund or offer an exchange.

There is no refund on custom orders.

All sales become final 7 days after delivery, and after that time items are non-returnable.

DAMAGED ITEMS
If an item has been damaged during shipment, I ask that you take clear photographs of the package and the damage to the item and send the photograph to me via convo here on Etsy. I will file an insurance claim so that I can refund your money. Please know that one a kind items are, of course, not replaceable.

LOST ITEMS
I cannot be held responsible for items lost in the mail. I always include a tracking number, so that the Postal Service can be contacted on both ends, and I will do my best to assist you if this issue arises. It is, eventually, up to you to work with the Postal Service to locate the whereabouts of your item.
Additional policies and FAQs
All of my artwork is copyrighted and may not be used or reproduced without written permission.

All photographs on this site attempt to visually represent my artwork as accurately as possible. There may be slight variations in colors due to lighting effects and differences in monitors.

Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalized orders

I am happy to create a custom painting for you. Simply contact me with your interests and needs, and we can get started on a piece that will be perfect for you and your home or for a gift.

Gift wrapping and packaging

All of my art is carefully and lovingly packaged to keep it safe while it travels to you. I also work hard to prepare a package that you will be delighted to receive and open. If you purchase something to give as a gift and would like it gift-wrapped, simply let me know and I will be sure to make it extra special and to include a gift tag and note.

Care instructions

My acrylic paintings are finished with at least two coats of varnish to protect the artwork from harmful UV rays, dust and dirt. All you need to do is gently wipe them from time to time with a dry, soft cloth. My watercolors are sealed inside clear, archival pouches upon completion and adequate dry time. They are shipped to you this way. I recommend acid-free mats and glare-free glass when you mat and frame them. If I have framed them already, you can rest assured that they are given the ultimate care in mat and frame choice.

Sizing details

Each listing lets you know what size the artwork is. Please be sure to read the detailed description for each listing you are interested in so you can be certain that the size of the painting is what you are looking for and will fit your needs.
