About

Knitting and Tatting Weren't Enough

After 10 years of tatting, I had too much tatting on my hands. What's a girl to do? Start an Etsy shop to share her tatting with the world!

I first learned to tat from a family friend in 2003 and have been tatting ever since. Along the way I joined the Lafayette Lacemakers (Lafayette,IN), the Portland Lace Society (Portland, OR), and the International Organization of Lace, Inc. (USA). I still like the oldest and most basic of tatting techniques best, but I have started to branch out and learn more of the modern techniques. I keep grumbling in my PLS meetings that my fellow tatters are making me "stretch" too much. Of course, part of this "stretching" means that I'm inspired to create new jewelry designs. My next course of action is to learn how to diagram my tatting patterns so that I can offer them for sale too.

Actually, this knitting thing started before the tatting. I learned to knit in the fall of 2002 and turned my thoughts to designing patterns in 2009. There are always ideas floating around my head, but only a few of them make it to the computer (aka my drawing board) and then on to a full PDF pattern. I'm really on a roll right now with my knitting. Look for a lot of new knitting patterns in 2014.

When it comes to supplies for my tatting I use premium 6-cord cordonnet Lizbeth thread, Miyuki and Toho glass seed beads, and a variety of findings. Knitting supplies generally come from my stash. I might have a little bit of yarn. Ok, I have a lot of yarn. My favorite brands right now? Briar Rose Fibers (briarrosefibers.net). Rowan. Cascade. Louet. Malabrigo. Blue Moon Fiber Arts. And, um. I should stop now. I also really love my Hiya Hiya steel interchangeable needles. I have 3 sets. No, really. I do. I also have size 0000 through 4 in the Steel DPNs. So, there is a lot of Hiya Hiya love going on in my home.

At some point I would also really love to have a floor loom. I took some classes in college and I loved weaving. One day, maybe, if I sell enough tatting, I can afford a floor loom. Hey! A girl can dream.

Fiber artist, at least, that's what I call myself. I have been a needlecrafter since 2002, dabbling in crocheting, knitting, spinning, weaving, sewing, quilting, and tatting. The results of my work in tatting and knitting can be found here.
