About

Handcrafted items made with love in the mountains of WNC

This store is owned and operated by a homeschooling mom and a fly fishing guide dad. We enjoy knitting, fly tying, and handspinning.

Inspired by books, television, movies and anything else that we take an interest in, our designs are meant to be fun and modern while using quality materials.

Knitting is not just our passion, but its what brings us together as family too. Whether we are working on a personal project, knitting up a pair of socks for one of the kids or finishing up an order that was placed on Etsy, knitting is a part of our lives. It's what gives us community and inspires us.

We bounce design ideas off each other, or snap cell phone shots from TV shows that we think another of us might like.

This enterprise gives us the ability to go to work in our pajamas, and teach our kids while we knit something just for you.

When we say each item is knit with love, what we really mean is that each item is knit with love, and humor and patience and most of all.... gratitude. Thanks for helping us do what we love.

So sit down, stay awhile. Look around and imagine what one of these hand knit items might make you feel.

Thanks,
The Knittin' Kitten

My projected ship date has passed but I haven't gotten a shipping notification yet. What's going on?

Thanks to a feature on Outlander products on a popular blog, we received 3x the normal amount of orders over the 2015 Christmas season. Couple that with some yarn backorders through our vendors and we are simply running behind. We are getting the orders out as quickly as our nimble little fingers allow. Also, please remember that this is all handmade and we work from home. We all have kids, and sometimes they get sick, or need help with their schoolwork. Basically, sometimes things happen that are beyond our control, but rest assured we are moving as fast as possible. we post an updated shipping schedule at the bottom of this post which is made current every Friday

Your items are more expensive than something similar I saw in another shop. Why is that?

The cost associated with the item is reasonable for a handknit item. Assuming that a pair of gloves takes 4 hours, you are paying $7.50 an hour for a handmade item. That is not even counting the cost of materials and shipping supplies. You may see things cheaper, but that store may not be charging a living wage for their items. We price our items using a per yard system and it is calculated to take in account both our quality and experience. If you would like to get it cheaper somewhere else, you are certainly able to. But remember, you get what you pay for.

My ship date has passed. Can I get a refund if I don't want to wait any more?

If you want a refund, we are happy to give you one. You are eligible for a refund if you cancel within the first 24 hours of purchase or if your estimated ship date has passed and you don’t want to wait any longer. Just remember, if you want the item again later, that you will be at the bottom of the queue instead of in the position you are now.

My grandmother/aunt/mom/best friend said she would make me something you sell in your store. Can you tell me what pattern and materials you used to make what you sell?

We sell some of our patterns. Some we still keep proprietary. We do not assist people by divulging our shop secrets or in copying our items. We do offer knitting consultation. You can message us for our fees.

I ordered a custom item but it doesn't look like I imagined it. Why doesn't it look like the pictures in your store?

It looks different because your item was custom. The very definition of custom item is that changes were made to a tested pattern to satisfy a customer request. A custom item will not look like the standard for various reasons. If the item contains a special order yarn or customized dimensions the shape of the item will change.

I ordered several things and they all have different ship dates. Which one will you use?

We will use the latest estimated ship date so that your items all ship together. If you want them to ship separately you will need to buy them as separate items, not combined items.
