About

Continuing a Tradition of Kentucky Proud, Women-Owned Businesses

Koji's was unofficially founded while my husband and I were living on the family farm in Eastern Kentucky. Growing our own food and connecting with nature that Spring was so inspiring! A simple soap recipe from a library book on homesteading proved life-changing. After just one batch, I was hopelessly smitten with soap making and started formulating my own recipes.
When I first started making soap, I noticed that most recipes called for a type of fat called Palm Oil. After doing some research, my eyes were opened to the atrocities of the Palm Oil industry. The demand for Palm Oil is so high that its harvest can be devastating to the environment, the wildlife and the exploited family farmers who have no choice but to grow it. I made a vow to create Palm Free soaps and base my recipes around that principle.

Once I decided to make skincare my full-time career, I formed an LLC and was accepted as a Kentucky Proud Certified Business like my aunts and Grandmother before me. It brings me so much joy to know I can create something beautiful, natural, and amazing for your skin. I hope you love Koji's products as much as I do, and look forward to working together!

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between handmade soaps and what I can buy in a big box store?

Most soaps sold in mass quantities by retailers are:

A. Cheap to produce
B. Made with Palm Oil, (the harvesting of which is extremely harmful to rainforests and the creatures who rely on them),
or
C. SLS, a very low-cost and potentially irritating chemical used to artificially increase lather

For some people, store bought soap is fine. However, for many sufferers of dry skin, eczema, acne, ect., significant improvement in the look and feel of skin is noticeable after only a week or two of using more natural skincare products.
Our soaps are made with my proprietary blend of coconut and olive oils, botanicals, essential oils, and colorants. Some contain fragrances, though any soap can be made fragrance- free by request.

Care instructions

Artisan soaps, especially those made without Palm Oil or artificial detergents, (like ours!), need to be kept dry when not in use. If you keep your soap in the shower, make sure there's a well-draining area for it to rest between washes. If bars are allowed to sit in water, they can get soft and will not last as long as those with proper drainage.
