My busy hands and busy heart.
I started selling my tatted jewelry here on Etsy a little over three years ago. After stepping down from my job in music ministry, I started to sell in person at craft fairs and farmers markets. This has become my day job, and I'm so thankful to be a stay at home mom and also be able to let my mind and hands run wild in design.
My fascination with tatted lace began when I was in the mood to try something new. Wandering the aisles of the local craft store some years ago, a memory was sparked when I came across a tatting shuttle. I remembered my mom having made some simple white edgings for my little navy sweater vests that I wore in private school. Being a serial craftaholic (I have to try everything at least once!) I took home the only book available on the subject of tatting. After many rounds with the poorly drawn visual instructions, I somehow got the knack of it and proceded to make an abundance of doilies, snowflakes, and bookmarks. I just loved the feel of it, how the stitches line up like little beads. The work has such a unique feel in the hands.
After making my fair share of traditional tatted patterns, I made my own little earring designs and soon learned how to dye my own thread for tatting. I've been beading and making jewelry since I was very young, so my work naturally started to incorporate more elements of jewelry design and I've since added to my arsenal with metalsmithing skills. I love making my own findings and components from scratch, and hope to continue in that vein in the future, being able to develop every part of the design from start to finish.
Over the years as the internet has taken off, it's brought new life to the art of tatted lace. "Tatters" all over the world are now connected and sharing designs, developing new techniques, and revitalizing what could have become a lost art. My hope and passion is to see the old arts passed on to the next generation. I love for my work to have a contemporary appeal, and to contribute to the value placed on the handmade.
Owner, Maker, Designer
I am fascinated by contrasts... sweet and sour, old and new. My work brings together my love of color, fine handwork, and design. I'm always on a journey, learning something, adding something to what I do.
