About KuruAccessories

Sales 15
On Etsy since 2011

Kuru Accessories is my personal progression.

The word Kuru in Sanskrit means “Doer”. I met this word after reading the Bhagavad Gita, the ancient Indian holy scripts. Kuru is the first four letters from the name of the field where God leads a young man name Arjuna into the deepest understanding of his own nature and the nature of the world.

I took “Kuru” as my avatar as a promise to myself to always be near to God and to always follow His instructions well.

I would later come to learn from one of my clients that Kuru is also a Japanese word which means “to come” or “to arrive”.

Many years ago, I wrote a seven page poem I condensed into a one page epilogue I rolled into a scroll, attached a feather to and shared with anyone who would take it as I walked.

I had more than two dozen feathers left over from what I bought and thought Hmmmm what can I use this for now?

My first inclination was make yourself a pair of earrings, so I did.

I made them simple with wood beads attached to them and later I would make them using small semi precious stones.

I received numerous compliments on my new repurposed earrings from friends and perfect strangers whom admire them enough to opt to purchase.

With the encouragement of my new found clientele I successfully got them into five retail boutiques and each company placed orders with me of 50+ pieces. For months I would pay the rent of my beautiful apartment on feathers.... How Good Is God.

Later on I was taught by a friend how to use a crochet hook to weave yarn. I created hats, scarves, gloves and even jewelry to boot from a material I would become obsessed with for quiet some time.

With the success of each material I touched I would discover that I clearly had a hidden talent for being crafty.

I am presently obsessed with leather as my material of choice. I can’t get over how beautiful, how sweet smelling, how variable, how durable and how soft to touch it is.

The handmade life has given me a freedom of self that is priceless and I am excited to be apart of the Etsy community to share my work with you.

Stay a while and thank you so much for visiting my store.
