Crafted by the Shop That Helped Shape the Fluted Shelf Trend

At LB Designs, we’ve been building fluted floating shelves for over five years — long before they became widely popular online. Over that time we’ve refined every part of the process, from how the fluting is applied to the sanding, staining, and finishing that give each shelf its final look.

Real wood shelves — never veneer-wrapped plywood.

Each shelf is crafted from real wood, carefully sanded and finished to highlight the natural beauty of the grain. Many fluted shelves you see online are built using Baltic birch plywood, which is a layered plywood core with a thin wood veneer on the outside.

At LB Designs, we choose true wood boards instead of veneer-covered plywood, resulting in shelves that feel more substantial, showcase authentic grain, and are built to last.

All photos in our listings show real shelves that we have built and installed. We believe customers should see exactly what they are purchasing, so we only use real photographs of our work.

Our mantel is gorgeous, exactly as pictured! The dark walnut stain compliments the rest of our living room beautifully. The sellers were also fantastically responsive! We ended up having an issue with shipping but because we are local, they personally dropped it on our doorstep for us. Installation was super easy and they give you a QR code to an installation video as well. My husband and I had it installed in roughly 30 minutes. Couldn’t ask for a better experience!

The Home of the Original Rounded Fluted Shelf

Hi! We’re Beau and Lilly, the husband-and-wife team behind L&B Designs.

What started as a small woodworking project in our garage has grown into a full-time family business. Today, we create custom floating shelves for customers across the country while raising our three children and working from home. Working from home allows us to be fully present for all of our daughters treatments who has a chromosomal disorder. That means more to us than you know!

We take pride in building shelves the right way—with solid wood construction, heavy-duty mounting hardware, and attention to every detail. Every order is handcrafted, packaged, and shipped by our family. Beau came up with the first on the market fluted floating shelf back in 2020- way before it became a “trend”. We’ve spent the past six years perfecting the design to make sure it remains the best on the market.
