The beautiful hand-crafted labor that went into its creation. It is unique and special and makes a wonderful gift that was made in America. It's so difficult to find items that represent the USA to bring when I travel. Thank you again for the labor and time that went into your work.

In my woodworking, I prefer wood that has some unique quality. The best parts of a tree are those not used for lumber: crotches with their flame pattern, burls with their swirling and twisted pattern, buttresses with their rippled grain, root balls with their mixed grain directions and unusual structures. All of these add beauty and character and contribute to the uniqueness of each creation. A work of art can be centered around a unique pattern in a piece of wood.

All of the wood I use was previously slated for the burn pile, the chipper, or the fireplace. Much of it came from trees that were downed by the F4 tornado that passed through the Kansas City area May 4, 2003. I collect wood when and where I can find it. It's amazing the variety and quality of wood you can find from trees that were just going to be discarded. Better a work of art for generations than a fire for a few hours.
