He estado involucrado en la artesanía desde una edad muy temprana. Mi abuela materna hacía casi todo lo relacionado con el hilo y las manualidades. Recuerdo que cuando era niña caminaba por su casa con un transbordador y una cuerda. Simplemente trabajando sus manos y creando hermosos artículos. Ella bordaba, hacía trabajos de crewel, tejía, tejía tateados de ganchillo, sentía trabajo, cuentas, cualquier cosa astuta, lo estaba haciendo. Mi madre dice que el gen artesanal la omitió y aterrizó en mí. Lo recojo rápidamente y no estoy seguro de cuándo comencé a tejer o hacer ganchillo.

He trabajado en la industria manufacturera y minorista desde que me gradué de la escuela secundaria a fines de los años 70. Hace un par de años me acerqué a mi esposo y le hice saber que no quería estar haciendo lo que estaba haciendo cuando se jubiló en unos años, por lo que necesitábamos comenzar mi negocio como LYS ahora para que pueda estar en camino antes de eso. Él me apoyó entonces y todavía lo hace ahora y mi sueño de tener mi propia tienda de hilados sucedió el 21 de noviembre de 2015. Estoy muy contento con cómo ha crecido mi tienda y los muchos amigos que he hecho en un corto período de tiempo.

Pertenezco a nuestra cámara local y recibí la Pequeña Empresa del año dentro de los 6 meses posteriores a la apertura. Me quedé paralizado. Nunca pensé que me considerarían ya que acababa de abrir. Pero apoyo a la comunidad de muchas maneras y mis puertas siempre están abiertas para cualquiera que quiera sentarse un rato. Ofrezco un lugar de relajación y escape. Nunca rechazo a nadie. He aprendido que un buen oyente es alguien que simplemente escucha. La mayoría de las personas solo quieren decir lo que necesitan y seguir adelante. Les permito que lo hagan. Tengo un gran respeto por mis clientes y saben que pueden venir a mí y ayudaré donde pueda.

I have been involved in crafts from a very young age. My maternal grandmother did just about everything involving yarn and crafts. I remember as a child she would walk around her home with a tatting shuttle and string. Just working her hands and creating beautiful items. She embroidered, did crewel work, knitted, crocheted tatted, felt work, beading, anything crafty, she was doing it. My mom says the craft gene skipped her and landed on me. I pick it up quickly and I am not sure when I first started to knit or crochet.

I have worked in the manufacturing and retail industry since I graduated high school back in the late 70's. Couple years ago I approached my husband and let him know that I did not want to be doing what I was doing when he retired in a few years and so we needed to start my business as a LYS now so it can be well on its way before then. He supported me then and still does now and my dream of having my own yarn shop happened November 21, 2015. I am very happy with how my shop has grown and the many friends I have made in just a short period of time.

I belong to our local chamber and I received Small Business of the year within 6 months of being opened. I was floored. Never thought I would be considered since I had just opened. But I do support the community in many ways and my doors are always open to anyone just wanting to come in a sit awhile. I offer a place of relaxation and escape. I never turn anyone away. I have learned that a good listener is someone who just listens. Most people just want to say what they need to and move on. I allow them to do that. I have great respect for my customers and they know they can come to me and I will help where I can.
